Being able to travel again now is a relief to us all. International destinations have opened their doors to welcome tourists from every corner of the world. And whilst things may have begun to normalise, or at least seem like they are, it's important to come to terms with the fact that the pandemic has changed the world. Today you’ll have a few more hoops to jump through when you do travel for example.

This is especially true if you plan to travel internationally. There are now a number of new regulations and protocols that must be adhered to on either side of the border. Take for example the fit to fly test.

What is it?

The fit to fly test was administered before travel in order to determine if a passenger is ‘covid negative’. The test was introduced to prevent the spread of the virus across international borders. On completion, passengers are provided with a certificate that records the results of the test.

Most airlines today have made a covid negative fit to fly certificate mandatory in order for passengers to be allowed to board a flight. Test results should be valid at the time of departure, and hence should be administered at least 24 hours in advance.

As the covid virus is easily transmissible, airlines must take appropriate measures to restrict contamination of aircraft and departure halls. It is for this reason that obtaining a fit to fly certificate before travel is so important. The good news is that for travellers both into, and out of the UK, a cheap fit to fly covid test can be found.

When to get your test?

Before you book an appointment, make sure that you’ve got your flight plan set by contacting your airline and referring to national websites of the destinations you are travelling to. Regulations do vary from country to country and some destinations deem it necessary to have a test administered 96 hours prior to departure, for others, it may be 48 hours before arrival, so don’t get caught out.

Because regulations have been changing so rapidly, connecting with your airline in advance is very good advice. Most registered testing centres in London have a turnaround time of 24 hours. However, there are others that offer same-day delivery.

It’s crucial to be aware that whilst many travel bans have been lifted, Covid 19 is still a very real risk. Therefore, for your safety, and for those around you, please continue to take precautions, particularly when travelling. Ensure good practices such as social distancing, wearing a mask in public places, and frequent hand-washing to reduce the chance of transmission.
