This has been the dream of the Steemit community before the hardfork to Hive due to much dispute and misunderstanding.
At first I believe that the original list of witnesses thought that Tron foundation will be replacing Steem from or absorbing Steem into the Tron network; however what I am seeing today is actually 2 different chains of but on the same platform.
It's a lot like the token claims on the steem-engine platform; just that this is totally 2 different chain.
This is quite an upgrade for the Steemit platform, although the witness nodes behave more centralised, the content creators each have their own private key; therefore as long as the network is still up (though a little skewed more towards the Asian region) it is in many ways, still in a way "decentralised".
The treat for Steemit Bloggers
Those who has been so used to Steem Blockchain dApps when they login to the official Steemit Wallet website, they will be delightfully reminded that they can actually obtain a Tron account for free.
Bloggers actually has an option NOT to accept it, but hey, with the time like this when many lost their jobs and this COULD just be the only way to keep them alive, I am sure many bloggers won't reject it.
Even I myself who has been a blogger for almost 4 years there would welcome an extra stream.
The very direct approach just like when you create a free Steemit account in the beginning (where roadscape - one of the core developers for Steemit before - has simplified the process), and once it is downloaded pretty much everyhing is secured.
The only biggest difference is that the Tron wallet is just like any other wallet; one public key and one private key.
So I personally do not know how the rewards is done later. I believe it's still in an early inclusion stage.
There is one drawback though:
I am not seeing the ability to re-generate a private and public key, unlike the Steemit account where the master MASTER (owner) key can actually regenerate the key set but still ties to the same steemit account should there be a compromise / hack happened where someone obtained the Active (most dangerous fund transferring) key.
So, once the private key is compromised, IT IS COMPROMISED.
The next thing before it should be updated, the downloaded private key needs to be updated to the Tron link wallet, which itself has some pretty nifty functions that should reserve for another sharing next time.
By choosing importing account, with the private key provided earlier from the Steemit Wallet site, this is where you can just paste it in.
Once that is paste in it, and click continue, naming your wallet and that's pretty much good to go.
Once that is done, head back to Steemit wallet and click on Update the Tron Account.
The Steemit site will once again remind you that your wallet needs to be set up before you can get your "entitled TRX drop" based on the staked Steem Power before.
Once that is done, allow your wallet to sit there for a couple of minutes before refreshing it.
It properly will take a while for it to be effective.
Another restriction for the use of the newly minted TRX that was linked from the Steemit account is that:
There is no way for you to move your funds around until you have staked / borrowed enough energy to do so later.
As you can see, currently I have zero bandwidth and energy. Without these bars filled up there is no way I can perform any transaction.
Quite an interesting and (somewhat) intimidating, but as I can understand, it works a little bit like the Steem's Resource Credits, and the more you stake your available TRX, the better the chance you can perform more activities there.
With new projects like Nutbox.io , a token on the Tron Blockchain that bridges between Steem Power Delegation to mine the token, things can be very interesting in the future for the Tron network if they keep all things organised and their founder sober, calm and professional (ignoring boos and nay sayers).
How about you?
Do you previously have a Steemit account that still has some substantial Staked power in there for redemption?
What do you think of this new collaboration of the 2 networks on the same platform? Would you think it can gather more users to come and use it?
