So for the ones who have no idea what I will be talking about, Bill Maher, host of real time with Bill Maher (HBO) thrashed crypto for about 10 minutes straight. He said many things such as this thing started as a joke, this has no real value, bunch of nerds trying to hold economy in their hand etc. He even shared his opinion on how much electricity these mining super computers consume.
I was shocked by his statements. He himself lives in Beverly hills, where most oh the houses suck more energies on Christmas lights than a factory would, yet he never spoke about it. At least these super computers do it for for a good cause!
He also concerned over how these coins are making money on their own without any contribution to this world or without any workers. My question is, where was he when multi-national companies fired their workers for machines. Although machines achieve more accuracy in any work and it is totally reasonable to do so. But if he concerns over workers, he should also stress about people who lost their source of income to a machine. People became homeless because of this technological revolution, but he never shed light on it.
And to be honest I don't know why he would ever use the term "nerd" in a negative sense. Steve jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg or take any other founder, would have been called nerds in their founding days. So if this cryptocurrency trend is founded by "nerds", I am happy because nerds have shaped the course of human kind.
My take on Bitcoin
His main point was that this money is not adding value to this world and if this system starts running the world, then everything will become meaningless. I think the values we add to this world are from our moralities and our actions. Money should never be the soul reason for work we do to make our lives and this world better.
