For the "Social Media Challenge" contest organized by Splinterlands this week, I chose to analyze an epic card from the Earth element: the Sporcerer card.

The topics I'll be covering in this post are as follows:

Topics

- Card: Sporcerer.

- Description, Stats and Abilities.

- Market, Levels and Economic Valuations

- Level Considerations

- My battle with Sporcerer

- My battle formation.

- Battle Considerations

- Final Considerations on Sporcerer

Card: Sporcerer

Description, Stats, and Abilities

Sporcerer is a card that is part of the Untamed collection.

It is an Epic card and is a card of the Earth element.

Sporcerer of level 1 has the following battle statistics:

- It has a mana cost of 6 points.

- It has 2 magic attack points

- Has 5 life points and has no armor points.

- It has a very low speed (1).

- Has an ability: Rust.

Thanks to the Rust ability, the Sporcerer card is able to reduce both the life points of the opposing card (with its magic attack) and its armor points (thanks to the Rust ability) with a single attack.

This ability is practically useless if none of the cards in the battlefield have armor points.

When Sporcerer reaches level 4, it acquires a second ability: Silence.

The Silence ability reduces the magic attack of all opposing cards.

When Sporcerer reaches level 6 (maximum level) acquires a third and final ability: Affliction.

When level 6 Sporcerer attacks an opponent's card, it has a chance to make the attacked card unhealable and thus nullify the healing abilities of the opponent's cards.

This ability is practically useless if none of the cards in the battlefield have armor points.

Market, Levels, and Ratings

Each card in the Splinterland game is printed in two versions: Regular and Gold.

The two versions of the Sporcerer card differ in:

- cost

- starting level (the gold version starts at level 2)

- number of cards needed to increase the level

- number of cards in circulation.

The lowest cost of Sporcerer (Level 1) - Regular version on the market is $0.041 (April 07, 2021)

In the following image you can see the complete statistics

The lowest cost of Sporcerer (Level 2) - Gold Version on the market is 30.00 $ (April 07, 2021)

In the following screenshot you can see complete statistics

Considerations about levels

Level 5 (Regular Version)

Level 5 is the level that, in my opinion, has the best benefit/price ratio!

When Sporcerer reaches level 5:

- acquires the Silence ability

- increases his speed by 1 point (1->2) compared to level 1

- increases his health points by 1 (5->6) compared to level 1

- Increases his magic attack by 1 point (2->3) compared to level 1

To reach level 5 you need:

- 32 cards to combine for the Regular version and the best price on the market is 13.12 $.

Gold or Regular?

For some cards the cost difference between the Gold and Regular versions is not very high. In the case of the Sporcer card, however, the price difference is very marked.

In circulation there are only 233 Sporcerer cards in Gold version and there is only one card for sale on the market.

A Gold card allows you to receive an additional 10% DEC bonus when it is used in battle and the battle ends with a victory.

In the case of Sporcerer Gold the price is really high compared to the regular version and I don't recommend buying it because there are much more useful cards in battle to buy at that price.

Now let's see how Sporcerer performs on the Battlefield.

A battle of mine with Sporcerer

In the battle of this post I had the following conditions to respect:

- Spreading Fury: All cards deployed in battle gain the Enrage ability that increases melee attack points and card speed when taking damage.

- Stampede: Cards that have the Trumple ability can use this ability multiple times in a single round of play.

- Mana Cap: 32.

- Useable Summoners: Only summoners of the elements can be used: Life, Death, and Earth.

My Battle Formation

The maximum number of cards that can be deployed in battle is 7 ( 1 summoner + 6 monsters)

I chose to deploy 6 monster cards (in order of position):

Flesh Golem - Grampy Dwarf - Sporcerer - Wood Nymph - Tortisian Chief - Javelin Thrower

Xander Foxwood (Summoner)

First Position: I chose Flesh Golem (level 4) because it's a great card to deploy in first position.

Flesh Golem (level 4) has a good melee attack (3 points), has a good number of life points (9), and has a very good Heal ability that is particularly useful for a card in first position.

Moreover, the Spreading Fury combat rule allows Flesh Golem to increase its stats (attack points and speed) every time it takes damage from an enemy card.

Thanks to the two abilities of its friend card Wood Nymph (Strenghten and Tank Heal) and the Tank Heal ability of its other friend card Tortisian Chief, it can recover a total of 6 life points instead of two each round of play and can start the battle with 10 life points instead of nine.

Second Position: In second position I deployed Grampy Dwarf (level 5).

Grampy Dwarf (level 5) is a very useful card because it only costs 4 points of Mana and can attack from the second position.

It's a card I use often especially in battles that have little mana available.

Third position: In third position I have deployed the card Sporcerer (level 1).

It is the star card of this week's Splinterlands contest.

It's a good card because it has 2 magic attack points but it's not one of my favorite cards and in fact I don't use it much.

It is however a good choice especially when the opponent uses a lot of cards with armor points that thanks to Sporcerer's Rust ability will start with -2 armor points.

In the battle of this post Sporcerer's Rust ability is not useful because no opponent card has armor points.

Fourth position: In fourth position I have deployed Wood Nymph (level 6).

Wood Nymph (level 6) is a really useful card because it has the Heal ability that can restore two life points to the card in first position.

Because of its importance in battle I always try to deploy Wood Nymph in the middle positions (third or fourth) because they are the positions that provide more protection.

Fifth position: In fifth position I chose to deploy Tortisian Chief (level 4) because it has a good magic attack (2) and especially has the ability Tank Heal that allows Flesh Golem to recover two life points each round of the battle.

Sixth position: In sixth position I chose to deploy Javelin Thrower (level 4) because it is a good card to deploy in last position: it has a good attack from the distance (3 points) and especially has a high speed (5 points) that allows it to have a good chance to avoid attacks from opponent cards.

As summoner I chose Xander Foxwood (level 4) because among my summoners of the element earth is the one that allows me to use the cards of higher level.

Battle Considerations

Generally for the "Share Your Battle" contest I choose a balanced battle, and in fact in this battle my opponent has an advantage based on total life + armor points while I have a slight advantage relative to total initial attack points:

- my opponent has a total of life + armor points equal to 50 points while I have a total of life + armor points of 39 points.

- I have a slightly higher total attack points than my opponent's battle formation (13 vs 11).

From a strategic point of view my opponent decides to deploy a card with no attack in first position (Gelatinous Cube) but with a lot of life points and the ability Heal, 1 card with melee attack, 2 cards with magic attack and 2 cards with attack from distance.

I instead decide to go for cards with magic attack (3 cards out of 6).

Both me and my opponent have a card with Heal ability in first position and both of us have Wood Nymph in fourth position and Javelin Thrower in last position.

During Round 1 no cards are eliminated and the forces in play are still in substantial balance: I lose two armor points and my opponent loses 4 life points.

In Round 2 Gelatinous Cube has 5 life points and in the fourth turn of Round 3 it is eliminated by the Flesh Golem attack.

At the beginning of Round 4 the situation has changed and is clearly in my favor.

My opponent has only 4 cards in play while I still have all the starting cards.

I have a double advantage in total attack points (13 vs 9) and total life + armor points (34 vs 30).

At the beginning of Round 5 my opponent is left with only three cards, two of them with ranged attack, and in first position comes the enemy Wood Nymph and the outcome of the battle is now in my favor.

My advantage continues to increase and the battle ends on the thirteenth turn of round 5 with a victory of my own.

Final Considerations on Sporcerer

Sporcerer is a card I very rarely use because I have cards in my collection that have better battle stats than Sporcerer, which is also why I have the Sporcerer card at level 1 and didn't choose to upgrade it.

Although Sporcerer is not one of my favorite cards it is a card with good battle stats.

It has a good two point magic attack already starting at level 1 and can be useful for new players who don't have many cards in their card collection.

According to my point of view the favorable battle rules for using the Sporcerer card in battle are mainly:

- Keep Your Distance

- Armored Up

- Reversed Speed

- Rise of the Commons

- Broken Arrows

- Back to Basics
