Today Splinterlands published a post (on Hive blockchain) with information and details about the release of the new Chaos Legion card collection.

I wanted to summarize all the information contained in the Splinterlands announcement post in tabular form for quicker and faster reference.

The first phase will then be the pre-sale.

The pre-sale will begin on Monday October 18, 2021 and will end after 30 days, on November 17, 2021.

Packs of cards will cost $4 each and can be purchased using:

- DEC tokens: the market value of the DEC tokens at the time of purchase will be taken into account

- SPS tokens: those who purchase card packs directly using SPS tokens will receive a 10% discount on the purchase price.

- Credits

Compared to Untamed card packs, the price of Chaos Legion card packs is exactly double: $4 each.

On the other hand, the conversion value of the cards of the Chaos Legion collection into DEC is half that of the Untamed cards.

Airdrops

There are 14 airdrops planned for those who purchase Chaos Legion card packs, and buying the card packs early in the presale will allow you to participate in all 14 planned airdrops.

Each time 1 million Chaos Legion card packs are sold there will be an airdrop that will have as a prize a certain number of cards from the Chaos Legion collection to be distributed.

The mechanism of the airdrops is similar to the airdrops that took place for the Untamed card packs but with some differences.

For the Untamed collection the airdrops occurred every 100000 packs of cards sold.

For the Chaos of Legion collection there will be an airdrop every time 1 million packs are sold.

The first airdrop will be exclusively for those who participate in the pre-sale and a prize of 1 limited edition promo card will be guaranteed to those who purchase a minimum of 50 packs of cards.

The Vouchers

Vouchers are definitely a novelty!

To buy Chaos Legion card packs during the presale you will need to have a voucher for each card pack you want to buy.

No Voucher = No Party! (No Pack)

This is the big news introduced by the team of Splinterlands that actually adds a new use case to the governance tokens of Splinterlands: the SPS tokens or more precisely to the SPS tokens staked.

To the one million packs of cards that can be purchased during the presale will correspond the distribution of one million Vouchers.

The Vouchers will be tokenizable game items and therefore can be transferred, bought and sold on markets outside the Splinterlands game such as on Hive Engine (https://hive-engine.com/).

The Voucher token distribution mechanism

Starting from the first day of the presale of the Chaos Legion collection card packs and every day for the duration of 30 days, an amount of 33333 Vouchers will be distributed to players who have staked their SPS tokens according to the following formula:

33333 / total SPS staked * SPS staked by player

If, for example, the distribution of vouchers was today and not October 18, 2021, each player would get 0.000357 vouchers for each SPS token staked.

I have been staking my SPS tokens since day one and have a total of 6903 SPS tokens (staked).

With this amount of SPS tokens I would get 2.46 Voucher tokens per day (assuming today was the first day of the presale) and I could buy 2 packs of Chaos Legion cards per day and a total of 73 packs of cards.

In the calculations of the previous table I did not consider the limit of 1 million SPS tokens (staked) and therefore I should have received a higher number of tokens.

In fact for the distribution of Voucher tokens will be considered for each player a maximum limit of 1 million SPS tokens (staked).

In reality, the amount of Voucher tokens I expect to get will be lower for the following reasons:

- Vouchers will push players who have liquid SPS tokens to stake them, and thus increase the total amount of staked SPS tokens.

- Holders of more than 1 million staked SPS tokens may create new accounts and distribute SPS tokens across multiple accounts, again increasing the total number of staked SPS tokens.

Will the value of SPS tokens go up?

Mine is only a prediction and not a financial advice but I really think that the value of SPS tokens will increase and in fact already today, after few hours from Splinterlands announcement, the value of SPS tokens increased by +29.6%.

The SPS tokens in circulation are 220000 (September 24, 2021) and the total supply will increase to reach the maximum supply of 3 billion tokens.

The large number of SPS tokens that will be in circulation in the future is not something I consider positive but on the other hand the positive aspect is that SPS tokens already have several use cases and will have more in the future.

Currently, SPS tokens:

- can be staked to obtain a passive income

- Are the entry requirement for Splinterlands tournaments.

- can be used to add liquidity to some pools

In the near future:

- they will be the base of calculation to receive Voucher tokens

- will allow to have a 10% discount on the purchase of packs of cards from the Chaos Legion collection

In the future SPS tokens will be added to DEC tokens in the rewards of game battles won and will have other use cases and will always be a requirement for access to future promotions and game activities as highlighted in the last post published by @splinterlans:

For the reasons stated above, today I decided to use the SWAP.HIVE tokens I had in my Hive Engine wallet to buy SPS tokens to add to the amount of tokens I had.

To make my purchase I had two options: Hive Engine or the Pool section of Tribal DEX.

Comparing the two methods of purchasing Hive's second level tokens is something I always recommend doing.

In fact if I bought the SPS tokens on Hive Engine I would have spent 28.45 HIVE and I would have bought 48.73 SPS tokens (image below).

Instead, I purchased SPS tokens from the SWAP subsection of the POOL section of TribalDex (https://tribaldex.com/dieselpools/) and with the same amount of SWAP.HIVE tokens, I bought just over 50 SPS tokens.

My purchasing goals

Before today's announcement of Splinterlands I thought I would be able to buy at least 200 packs of Chaos Legion cards and to make the purchase I intended to use the HBD tokens that I am continuing to accumulate in my wallet.

With the price of $4 per pack I may be able to buy fewer packs of cards but I still have a few days before October 18 so I may still be able to meet my minimum purchase goal.

Splinterlands is my favorite blockchain based game and it is also a game developed and built on my favorite blockchain (Hive) so I will try to buy as many card packs as possible during the presale.

Based on my calculations and predictions I will definitely have to buy token vouchers in order to finalize my purchase and when the Voucher tokens are distributed I will re-evaluate my purchase goals also based on the price the Voucher tokens will have...
