Hello friends of read.cash,

I really like decentralized games and Splinterlands was the first decentralized game I played.

The protagonist of this post is the Enchanted Defender card that was the protagonist of the Splinterlands contest (on the Hive Blockchain) titled "Share Your Battle" last week.

I didn't make it to the contest in time, but I really enjoy playing Splinterlands so I wanted to write a post about this card anyway.

The topics I'll be covering in this post are as follows:

Topics

- Card: Enchanted Defender

  • Description, Stats, and Abilities.

- Cost, Levels, and Ratings

  • Level Considerations

- My battle with Enchanted Defender

  • - My battle formation.

  • - Battle Considerations

- Final Considerations on Enchanted Defender

Card: Enchanted Defender

Description, Stats, and Abilities

Enchanted Defender is a card that is part of the Promo collection.

It is a Common card and is a card of the Neutral element.

Neutral cards have a great advantage: they can be used with any summoner.

Enchanted Defender of level 1 has the following stats:

- It has a low to medium mana cost (4).

- Has 1 point of attack from melee

- It only has 1 life point but has 4 armor points.

- It has a low speed (1).

- Enchanted Defender level 1 has no abilities but when it reaches level 5 it gains the Thorns ability.

Cards that have the Thorns ability when they suffer a melee attack from an enemy card counterattack the card that attacked them.

Cost, Levels, and Ratings

The lowest cost of Enchanted Defender (Level 1) on the market is $0.044 (February 4, 2021)

In the following image you can see the complete statistics

Level considerations

Level 3

Level 3 is the first interesting level to take Enchanted Defender to because it is the level that doubles the attack points (1 -> 2) and compared to level 1 has one more armor point.

To reach level 3 you need 5 cards to combine and the total cost is $0.22.

Level 5

Level 5 is the level that, in my opinion, has the best benefit/price ratio!

At level 5 Enchanted Defender acquires the ability: Thorns and acquires an additional armor point over level 4 reaching a total of 6 armor points.

To reach level 5 requires 12 cards to be combined and the total cost is $0.528.

Level 7 and Level 9

Level 7 and Level 9 are two other levels that you can consider to upgrade Enchanted Defender.

At level 7, Enchanted Defender increases its attack points (2->3).

To reach level 7 you need 105 cards to combine and the total cost is $4.62.

At level 9, Enchanted Defender reaches the maximum number of attack points (3->4).

To reach level 9, 305 cards are required to be combined and the total cost is 13.42 $.

Max level (Level 10)

To reach the max level (the tenth) you need 505 cards to combine and the total cost is 22.22 $.

This is a level I don't recommend because spending almost $10 more to get just one additional armor point than level nine is not very convenient.

Now let's see how Enchanted Defender performs on the Battlefield.

A battle of mine with Enchanted Defender

If you want to watch the battle you can do so from this link: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=e9b5ffe0ebc3c1ab3068ea2f1ae8f3214c76a5fa&ref=libertycrypto27

In the battle of this post I had the following conditions to meet:

- Super Sneak: All cards with a melee attack gain the Sneak ability.

- Lost Magic: Cards with magic attack cannot be used.

- Mana Cap: 23.

- Useable Summoners: Only summoners of the elements can be used: Life, Earth, and Dragon.

My Battle Formation

The maximum number of cards that can be deployed in battle is 7 ( 1 summoner + 6 monsters)

I chose to deploy 6 cards (in order of position):

Flesh Golem - Manticore - Fiendish Harpy - Brownie - Halfling Alchemist - Enchanted Defender

Daria Dragonscale (Summoner)

I chose this battle because it has two combat rules favorable to Enchanted Defender.

In fact, Enchanted Defender is a card that can only attack from the first position, but its stats are not ideal for a card to be deployed in the first position:

- it has only one life point: if our opponent deploys cards with magic attack Enchanted Defender will be eliminated at the first magic attack.

- has a low speed: it can hardly avoid an attack.

Thanks to the Super Sneak rule Enchanted Defender can attack from any position and can be deployed in a position other than the first position.

Thanks to the Lost Magic rule, cards with magic attack cannot be deployed in battle, so Enchanted Defender is much more likely to withstand multiple rounds of play.

The simultaneous presence of the Super Sneak and Lost Magic battle rules make the Enchanted Defender card a good choice especially in battles that have few mana points available.

Battle Considerations

My opponent starts with a big advantage relative to total life + armor points.

I have 31 total life + armor points while my opponent has 47.

I instead have a good advantage relative to total attack points

I have 21 total attack points while my opponent has 12 total attack points.

I gain this advantage through the combined use of the Daria Dragonscale summoner (+1 melee attack) and the Brownie card (+1 melee attack).

At the beginning of Round 2 my opponent loses the Truthspeaker card that, thanks to the Protect ability, gives 2 armor points to each of my opponent's cards.

I lose Enchanted Defender, which was still a useful card despite its quick elimination.

I chose the last position for Enchanted Defender because it is the card that, after Flesh Golem, has the highest number of armor points.

Enchanted Defender can protect friendly cards from 3 attacks.

At the beginning of Round 3 I'm left with only two cards: Flesh Golem and Manticore while my opponent still has 4 cards in play.

My opponent has an advantage both in terms of attack points (8 vs. 7) and in terms of total armor points + life points (20 vs. 17).

At the beginning of Round 5 the situation is reversed and is in my favor thanks to my Flesh Golem's Heal ability and Manticore's Thorns ability that subtracts 4 points each round from the enemy card in second position.

The battle ends on the first round of Round 6 with a win from me.

Considerations on Enchanted Defender

Enchanted Defender is a cheap card but for its characteristics is useful only in battles that have precise rules of combat.

I rarely use it because I have better cards to play in battle, but given its low cost it can be useful especially to new players who have a very small collection of starting cards.

According to my point of view the usefulness of the Enchanted Defender card in battle increases when the rules of battle are:

- Super Sneak

- Lost Magic

- Melee Mayem

- Equalizer

- Back to Basics
