Growing up in a province, they would say "you haven't gone through childhood if you did not experience these..."
Ixora coccinea also known as "Santan", is one of the flowers that can be found in Philippines. Kids would usually suck the nectar of this flower which taste surprisingly sweet. After sucking out the nectar, we then assemble these tiny flowers into different kinds of jewelries such as crowns, necklaces, rings, anklets and bracelets. Inserting the stem of one flower to the hole of another where the nectar was extracted until we can make a circle of our desired diameter to form our jewelry. I also remember how we would play hunting of a 5 or 6-petal santan and who ever found one first would win whatever we agreed as a prize.
It's just so amazing to reminisce how a flower can make one's childhood so memorable that you would always smile once you see THAT flower.
Have you tried it too? If not, it's never too late to try. :)
