Rol-Tangi died in May this year at her home in Monto at the age of 101.

She joined the Resistance at the age of 21, dispelling calls for rebellion on the day German troops occupied Paris in June 1940.

With her husband Henri, who was also a well-known fighter of the resistance movement, she went into dangerous and illegal activities as a liaison officer of the French army in the country, which was the official name for the resistance movement. Cecil and Henri had to hide their relationship in order to keep their work secret and use false identities.

Rol-Rangi later told how she used a pram to carry messages, weapons and explosives.

In August 1944, when Henri Rol-Tangi was the commander of the Resistance Movement in the Paris region, Cecil worked with him to establish a headquarters in a bunker in the city center.

On August 19, they wrote and published a manifesto calling on Parisians to revolt. The city was liberated six days later.

When General Charles de Gaulle led the victory parade along the Champs Elysees on August 26, Rol-Tangi was the only woman at the reception that de Gaulle held to thank the fighters of the Resistance Movement.

Rol-Tangi later contributed to focusing on the role of women who fought heroically for France during the war, and in 1984 she received a legion of parts, the highest French decoration.

Henri Rol-Tangi died in 2002.
