Magnificent Frigatebird

The bird's name is Magnificent Frigatebird. They keep their redbreasts strangely swollen. More strange is their nature.

They fall asleep while floating in the sky while flying a long way. Leaving themselves in this 'autopilot mode', they have no problem flying.

Scientists say the bird can fly for up to two months. They sleep an average of 41 minutes every day. They gave this information by examining about 14 birds.

They fall asleep for a very short time, 12 seconds at a time. They usually spend half of their brain on this. Many times they use both parts of the brain.

According to Niels Rottenberg of the Max Planck Institute for Ornithologists in Germany, many believe that half of their sleep comes from using the brain.
