To arouse the jealousy of the Spanish Roderigo, who does not want to know about her love, the beautiful Venetian Lorenza becomes in Palermo, in the absence of her husband, the Spanish captain Alonso de Contreras, the lover of a family friend: Juan Cabrerà. On his return, Alonso is informed of everything by Roderigo. The Spanish captain surprises the lovers and hits them with a dagger and then escapes abroad. Roderigo, for his part, rushes back to Cadiz, his hometown. Juan dies, but Lorenza survives his serious injuries. To find her Roderigo, to conquer him, the woman embarks on a Neapolitan brig that sails towards Cadiz. The brig headed for Cadiz, on which Lorenza travelled, sailed peacefully in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. In the distance appeared a ship with all sails unfurled to the wind. The mysterious ship was heading towards the Neapolitan vessel. Captain Felipe de Menarga had understood that they were pirates and changed course trying to escape. But the pirate ship, faster, was gaining ground minute by minute, and Lorenza and the other passengers could already see the fierce faces of the pirates on the other vessel, who, armed to the teeth, we're preparing to attack the brig.

Shortly afterwards, the pirate ship had pulled over the Neapolitan brig, and the pirates launched into the boarding led by their leader, Dragut. Dragut who, captured by the Venetians, had been in jail for six years, until his brothers Aroudj and Kha'ir Eddin, called Barbarossa because their father, a Greek renegade, had a beard of that colour, had freed him. In a few minutes, the pirates became the masters of the brig. Captain, crew and passengers were prisoners. The ferocious Dragut, who six years in prison certainly did not induce compassion, had Captain Felipe de Menarga stripped bare. The Pirate asked him for gold and silver on board. The Spaniard replied that there was none of this on board, and then Dragut, angry, gave orders for a burning torch to be passed over his body. Since Felipe de Menarga, at another urging, despite the torture, continued to repeat that he had nothing to deliver, he ended up dead atrociously burned. Out of spite, Dragut had all the crew and male passengers hanged from the flagpoles. Later, to divide them among his men, Dragut had all the women taken prisoner on deck. There were about twenty women, all Italian, except for five nuns of Spanish nationality. Of all of them, Lorenza was by far the most beautiful, and also the least willing to accept falling into the hands of pirates. Suddenly, while some corsairs were still carrying out the task of hanging the men, a gunshot left the women's group and touched Dragut's face. Who had dared to shoot at the terrible pirate leader? It was Lorenza, who immediately after pulling the trigger, threw the weapon into the sea without being seen.
