The Giro d'Italia, postponed for the first time in its centenary history (103 years) in autumn (from 3 to 25 October), is about to begin.
What Giro will it be?
The route covers 3,496.8 kilometres of novelties, confirmations (departure from Sicily), surprises (the magic of Matera and the uphill finish in Roccaraso) and great classics (the Stelvio, with its 2,758 metres, Piancavallo and Sestriere). The great mountains are confirmed. Three individual chronometers (for a total of 64.7 km), six stages designed for sprinters' wheels, six of medium difficulty and six for people with a fearless heart who want to go down in history. Seven uphill arrivals and the final sprint (for those who arrive there) against the clock, from Cernusco Sul Naviglio to Piazza Duomo, the beating heart of Milan.
Giro 2020 will be the usual big folk festival. The public will be admitted to the start and finish following a strict protocol. Many riders who have preferred to race the Tour de France in September or who will dedicate themselves to the classics during this period will not be there, but it will be the usual big battle in pink. There are still top-level athletes ready to play the "Endless Trophy", let's go and discover the main favourites:
Richard Carapaz (Team Ineos)
Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-Quick Step)
Jakob Fuglsang (Astana)
Giulio Ciccone (Trek-Segafredo)
Simon Yates (Team Fundacion Manuela)
Rafal Majka (Bora-hansgrohe)
Patrick Konrad (Bora-hansgrohe)
Hugh Carthy (EF Pro Cycling)
Ilnur Zakarin (CCC Team)
