The next "Series A" will be the strangest and most special league ever, especially unpredictable. We start again without spectators and without real pre-season tests, with a preparation just sketched and the market that presents too many unsolved cases all surrounded with the nightmare of the Covid-19. Club budgets are in the red (for years now) and revenues tragically and drastically decreased (still behind closed doors). Just 48 days have passed between seasons, never happened in the history of Serie A and the teams are open yards. Almost all worked on site, in fact only 5 companies (Benevento, Bologna, Lazio, Naples and Verona) chose to retire at the top. The Covid-19 forces constant changes, programs are made and undone, friendlies cancelled.
In what condition will the teams get to the championship no one can know. We hope at least that the virus will give us respite and in October and we can reopen (partially) the stadiums. The season will last only 9 months and there will be 6 midweek shifts. It is therefore very difficult to predict who will win the "2020-21 Shield". Juventus finished badly last season and have a young coach like Andrea Pirlo, making his debut in Serie A, but comes from nine consecutive titles won (record!): so it remains from the bettors the favorite. The inter is chasing and it's very close. Right behind is Atalanta: a certainty. Milan, Napoli and Lazio have a great desire to do well. Behind the bigs, sassuolo's eye plays great, the enthusiasm of Fiorentina and Cagliari. Curiosity for Verona (after the big last season is expected to jump in quality) and for the newly promoted (Benevento Crotone and Spezia) in seeing if they can compete with the "Big", while the others (Torino, Genoa, Sampdoria, Bologna, Parma and Udinese) look for a league less anonymous than a salvation.
On the first day and will be played between 19 and 20 September, the defending champion Juventus will face Sampdoria at home, the very team with which the Bianconeri won their ninth consecutive Scudetto last July. The cartel race of the first day would have been Lazio-Atalanta, but the race will not be played in September but will be recovered on Wednesday 30 September as well as Benevento-Inter and Udinese-Spezia. The reason is related to the participation in the Final Eight, respectively of the Champions League and Europa League, of Lazio and Inter, as well as the playoff final of Spezia (newly promoted by Serie B).
