Dexter is a TV series in the genre Drama, Crime, Thriller created by James Manos Jr. and Jeff Lindsay with Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter, broadcast in the USA since 2006. Dexter finished production in 2013 (eight seasons and 96 episodes).
The TV series is a crime drama about Dexter Morgan, a Miami forensic police haematologist who hides a terrifying secret: behind his friendly smile, Dexter is a relentless serial killer. His prey is one of the usual categories targeted by these human monsters. Thanks to his father's teachings, Dexter only kills criminals who have escaped justice. But how long will he be able to escape the law? Dexter, orphaned at the age of three, is adopted by Harry Morgan, a Miami police sergeant. Morgan, when he discovers that Dexter kills animals, understands that his son is a sociopath and a potential serial killer. Trying to avoid a future in prison or the electric chair, he teaches him to channel his violent impulses towards those who “deserve it”: criminals who in one way or another have managed to escape justice. Dexter killed animals, and he would also have killed people if he had no respect for his father's judgment. Only after a careful talk with his father, aware of his son's psychological anomalies, does Dexter become convinced that his aim in life will be to eliminate only bad people. According to the code of Harry, which Dexter follows to the letter, his victims must be exclusively murderers, rapists, paedophiles and all those who could prove dangerous to society. Also, Harry teaches his son to build a façade to appear normal and harmless in the eyes of others and to escape police investigation himself. Once his attraction for blood has grown, he leads Dexter to become a forensic technician in blood trace analysis. Dexter's experience leads him to collaborate with his half-sister Debra, a homicide squad officer (like his father) at the Miami Police Department. Debra, beautiful, insecure and willing, is supported by her brother in her career. Dexter became a police officer, blood interprets it, reads it, and spills it. Dexter is simply a serial killer of serial killers. He is not a bad man, he is just a man determined to follow his nature. As part of his masking project, Dexter hangs out with Rita Bennet, a separated woman with two young children, Astor and Cody. Rita was abused by her ex-husband and when she meets Dexter, who is also reluctant to have physical relations, she falls in love with him, unaware of his secrets. Although Dexter is a sociopath, initially incapable of feeling genuine feelings, he has in his way a relationship of sincere friendship with friends and colleagues, particularly with his sister to whom he is very close.
