A Breadwinners Perspective

A colloquial term for the primary or source of income in a household is "BREADWINNER." By providing the largest amount of the household income, breadwinners often pay for the majority of living expenses and provide for their dependents. In a family, the mother or the father should be the one to support or provide for the children's needs financially. Due to their financial situation in life, where they only live within their means, not all parents can support or provide for their children. Thus, the role of the "Breadwinner Child" would be introduced, wherein the child will be responsible for providing for their parents and siblings financially.

Lucky are those who are born with privilege. They can easily buy the things they need, fulfill their food cravings, and travel the places of their dreams. Money is not an issue for them. They don't have any financial problems. For me, money is the most problematic thing for people. However, some of them would argue that the pressure and demand make it difficult to be one. But when you stop to think about it, how much worse must it be for those without privilege?

Being the family's breadwinner is never easy, especially in the Philippines. Even though your salary is simply average, the cost of living is too high. I have to give my family the material and emotional assistance they need. I have to put in a lot of effort to support them. I must work longer hours to increase my income and somehow can give a little extra. Thinking about where you will get money on a regular basis every day is extremely exhausting. I might also forego my wants (like that brand-new smartphone, brand new clothes, and a new pair of shoes, hehe) in order to provide for my family. I have to do everything for my family. To make them happy. To let them feel that although we might not have everything we wished to have or experience that they have a big sister that will do her best to give out all her effort for the sake of the family.

We all have moments when we seriously wonder, especially when things are not going our way, why am I in this situation? On this planet, there are billions of individuals, so why me? Life is totally unfair. I wish I wasn't in this position. I sometimes feel like I need to rest, but there is nowhere to do it. I also wish I could go on a vacation to recharge, but I can't due to my financial situation. I don't know why the Man Above gave me the hardest road but there's nothing the Man Above would put you in a situation that you can't handle. And if you really think about it, there are likely people who are suffering just as much as I am, if not more.

Therefore, I'll just accept the idea that everything happens for a reason. Everything that goes wrong will serve as motivation for me to keep working hard and I'll be more inspired to accomplish my objectives. Fighting, Fighting, Fighting!

I am also the family's breadwinner and it's really not easy. We have to sacrifice personal wants for the need of the family. There are times that I silently cry when situations seem too hard. Luckily due to my perseverance and faith in the Lord, I can now gradually buy my wants. The Lord sees us. He will bless us more than what we give to others. Laban lang ta sis..
