The Key to True Happiness

"Man who is born of woman Is of few days and full of trouble" (Job 14:1, New King James Version). There is no need to convince anyone on the truthfullness of this biblical pronouncement, for this is indeed the experience of every man. Trouble is no respecter of gender or person. The poor and the uneducated, the rich and the famous, and even the powerful become its unwilling and resisting victims. But a man's suffering due to troubles does not end with just himself. Either unknowingly and unintentionally or otherwise, he imposes the distressing effect of what he is experiencing on innocent people around him, more often on his loved ones. King Solomon-who can be considered, even by today's standards, as a man who had an enviablr life because of his power, wealth, and wisdom-expressed his feeling, keen observation, and experience which truly represent the sentiment of mankind concerning the quality of life here on earth. Despite his unnumerable and incomparable accomplishments and successes, he concluded: "Therefore I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me, for all is vanity and grasping for the wind" (Eccles. 2:17, Ibid.). Truly, there are those who not only hate life but they go as far as questioning God: "Remember how short my time is; For what futility have you created all the children of men?" (Ps. 89:47, Ibid.). Regardless of one's reaction when faced with troubles, it cannot be denied that everyone zealously desires to be happy. But how many truly know what happiness really is and how they can find it?
