While in college, I was part of the class called Community Welfare Training Services (CWTS). It's part of our curriculum so we have to take it for two years.
The program focuses on community services during weekends. We do street sweeping and gardening.
On my second year, our final project was to contribute funds and build bookshelf cottages for suburban areas in our city.
We give this to those kids whose families couldn't afford to send them to school. We also collected donations of books and even bought new ones.
We were able to make three big cottages. We painted and decorated the built-in shelves crafted by us.
In the opening of the cottage bookshelves, the kids arrived with ages 1 to 7 years old. There were few randomly aged 8-12 bust majority are little ones. So we arranged the books according to their group age.
It's kind of heart warming to see innocent smiles. And it's the best feeling to see something useful that you build with your own hands.
The kids showed genuine smiles. And giggle over excitement.
As a student whose part of this community service, it's a great honor for me to help and give more smiles to this wonderful creations of God.
The book cottages were maintained by the next batch joining CWTS class.
