Among Us

Are you familiar of the game "Among Us"? This game is introduced to me by my husband and son. I'm not into online gaming, really! The reason why I hate to try online games is because, I get hooked and forget all my tasks. I tend to forget my work when I start playing so I never attempt to try one. Then I fall like a lazy pig in bed and wanted to just play along the whole day, so it's really a "NO" for me. This two were very insistent and now here I am giving it a try.

What is AMONG US?

It is an online multiplayer game released on June 15, 2018. It is a space themed setting where players take one of two roles called the "crewmate" and the "impostor". Both roles have different tasks.

Crewmate. If you are a crewmate, you'll be given a list of task like fixing damaged pieces inside your space ship. You have to survive and try not to be eliminated by the others if they suspect you to be the "impostor". All crewmates have no idea who the impostor is. Each time dead bodies are being reported or discovered, you'll be called for emergency meeting where all of you will gather and discuss who the impostor could be. If you get more votes, even if you are not the impostor, you will be eliminated from the game. You stay in the game like a ghost, some could still perform tasks but cannot participate the voting.

Impostor. You will be given a random role right away when the game starts. If you get the role of an impostor, your task is to sabotage to create commotion among the crewmates. Your name will be highlighted with red, and you'll be able to see who the other impostors are. Killing the crewmates before completing their task, to win the game is your main role. Everytime a meeting is being held, you have to convince the other crewmates that you are not one of the impostor in order to stay in the games. As long as all crewmates are eliminated, you as an impostor along with the others, will win the game as a group. If you get eliminated in the middle of the game, you can still sabotage and do the list of tasks given to you. This way, you can help your group of impostors win the game.

As far as I know, based on what my husband told me, this game was created way back in 2018 and had gone popular just this year (2020) as the mainstream social media made it popular. Then the gamers started playing it which made it even more well known to the world. I have seen a lot of "among us" characters everywhere in the internet but I ignored it finding it weird and creepy.

Everytime I see my kid watching it, I would feel annoyed and tell him to stop watching such weird things but I guess he finds it really cute, because of the different costume colors. I also find the background music eerie, but some used cute old songs for this and it made me think that it's not that bad.

But there was once I got mad to my husband for playing the game with the kid until 3:00 a.m. This is such an irresponsible act of him for letting the kid stay up until almost morning. I confiscated their phones and ordered to turn on the WiFi at 10:00 p.m. I occasionally allow my kid to play this game as long as he is done with his school goals and set a time for him to play.

When they told me to try it, I wasn't able to understand it. I hated it and stopped playing 'coz I found it boring and it hurts my eyes. The kid explained to me the concept of the game and so I tried again. Now, I'm playing it even without them. Lol! It's actually fun because you can interact with other users since it's an online game. You will meet people from other countries or different areas from same country.

So far, the game is good though, you have to guide your kids in playing this game. Always explain to your kids what they are watching and playing on screen. Which games they are allowed to play. I would like to remind you that this game is not intended for younger ages due to some violent scenes, though not actually shown on the game but the word "kill" is enough to warn parents that this is not good for little ones without proper supervision. See to it that your kids will understand what they are doing.

See, the game is not that bad. Still you need to supervise your kids. The sound effects are eerie as I said and it could give the mind different effects, different reactions.
