Wattpad: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.
Okay I know you read the title and your like what is she talking about but I promise it will make sense.
If you don’t know what wattpad is then you should know that wattpad is a book and writing app that focuses on peer to peer reading content meaning anyone can be a writer or reader depending on what they want. You must know that it is a big company and have pay to read books and writers who are stars, this means that if you gain agood following and good writing then you might be a star.
They also publish books traditionally and manage writers, there are a lot of writters who started off as wattpad writers, did you know the book and movie after came from wattpad? Also kissing booth had it’s start on the app so you can see how much wattpad has to grow you as a writer.
THE GOOD.
The platform is a giant of it’s industry, it has paved the way for a lot of companies and has made it easier for writers to get seen and grow their platform as writer. They also have a feature that lets you plug in your socials and make a reading list for your fans as well as updates when they follow you.
You get to be part of a community and can comment on a book and interact with the author, something that traditional publishing doesn’t do. With this social media like presence and a good following your book will be the next Kissing booth.
THE BAD
Not everything is all sunshine’s and rainbows. As much as the platform helps you get a whole of your carrier and all that, if you are a reader then you are in for a rollercoaster ride. When you look for a book to read on the site there are the normal features that help you filter out what you want to see, you can search a specific author, word, and name. If it is completed or being updated all of that. The problem is you go in blind when you read the books.
There are content farms in wattpad that boost a books reading views higher despite it not being a good book. You’ll see in the comments generic comments like omg good, wow, I like this author, nice, and other things. This is the worst part of it because the blurb (as I said in my former article) will be good but the book will be absolute trash that will make you say what in the lords name is this!
THE UGLY
Oh I’m going for the jugular on this. The worst and I mean worst thing about wattpad is the amount of absolute fanfic and abusive nonsense it . Hear me out okay. Think about the worst book ever and the worst broken English writing and put one direction or any celebrity and times it to infinity, that’s how bad they are.
There are so many contents in there about abuse and rejected mates, (Which is a good trope if done correctly) But they take it to an extent that the main character gets rapes, physically abused, Almost killed repeatedly, forcibly Impregnated and manipulated (Did I say they are naive and don’t even have the backbone to defend themselves) and then just because the cool kid or boy says I like you they forget the trauma start talking have a 360 degree shift in personality and become popular or the queen king or whatever. (There are a lot of gay ships by the way, some are really good others you’ll read and be like you need help psychological help)
So what I’m saying is on this platform it’s okay to indulge in crazy stories of good ones but don’t for the love of all that is good and holy left in this world don’t go down the rabbit hole of wattpad cringe books, I’ve seen the worst parts of the site and I’d like to keep your purity.
