Recently I have been searching and researching the internet and trying to learn about self publishing. There are a lot of authors who begin their walk to fame through self publishing. Kindle for example had become one of the best places to publish your novel and actually earn from this. Although self publishing offers authors complete freedom and financial advantages compared to traditional ways of publishing. It is also important to understand the disadvantages of self publishing because in most cases you would be the one to Market your book to your audience.

Web Novels.

Something new in the novel writing industry is the rise of Web novels. Web novels are a books that can be read online, they are mostly made of short chapters and some chapters you have to unlock. Almost everyone has once in a while come across and advertisement about a Mafia boss novel and what not. Web novels are specifically developed for instant gratification. Almost all of them have an interesting plotline and fascinating characters that you hope and fall in love with.

So what do you do when you have a passion for writing but you don’t want to have the opportunity to pursue traditional publishing and you also don’t have the enough fans to begin self-publishing.

There is always Web novels and today I’ll explain to you a few a web novel site I have tried and give you a detailed review of my experience with them.

   Novel Cat

Novel Cat is the first on this list. When I had been racking my brain on how I’m going to start my journey I found the site called Novel Cat. Novel Cat is a web site that offers webnovels to the public, some novels are free others have pay to read chapters. Pay to read is a feature whereby a reader would pay specific coins to unlock a chapter, those coins are worth a specific amount of dollars the more coins you earn the more your income is.

If you want to start a writing in Novel Cat there is a procedure that you must follow. The first being you need to at least have 5000 words published of your book, once that’s done you can submit it for contract signing.

Contract signing is the most important part. There are two types of contracts in the Web novel world of publishing

a)      Non-Exclusive Contract.

This contract allows you to publish your book on the site (Novel Cat) as well as other sites like novel cat. The contract normally states terms and agreements, as do all contracts one being that they get a specific percentage of royalties if the book will become famous and get published traditionally or be adapted in any way also including movies and series, manga e.tc. This contract, however, won’t get you too much marketing in the platform with a Non-Exclusive contract than with an Exclusive Contract.

Novel Cat offers Marketing within all their platforms. It’s important to understand that Novel Cat also has other sites that are the same and offer the same type of services to the reader. This means that your book will reach a wider Audience. All you have to do is write and your editor will do the rest.

Editors: Editors are your representatives. When you decide to publish your first book an editor will get in contact with you and they will be the one to guide you and offer you a contract if they believe that your book is good enough.

b)      Exclusive Contract.

This Contract allows you to publish your books within the site and only in the site, in exchange you will get 50% of profits and Marketing priority. They also offer you 50% of any profit you get from the novel when it’s distributed to other sites not owned by Novel Cat, You get 50% Profit as well when it is adapted into any film comic book or any other type of adaptation.

Marketing possibilities are large with this contract. Novel Cat will publicize your book in the platform as well as other sites e.g face book google ads e.t.c provided your story shows potential.

It is also important to note that your writing will determine your popularity in the platform.

(Note: Always go through the contract and read through it thoroughly make sure you understand it. I know that some contracts may be different depending on Novel Cats terms and agreements changes.

How the Platform Works.

Readers who like your book can choose to add it to their library, this means that they get updated whenever you post a new chapter. Readers can also choose to follow your authors account in order to get notified whenever you publish a new book.

Growing your reader following is important. This will allow you to stand out from the crowd. The site also has Level tracking. This means that if you are a newcomer you start as a Level One writer. Levels are from Level One to Level 10 being the highest and the most profitable level there is.

The system will naturally upgrade you when you reach the level necessary. There are rewards within the platform whenever you upgrade your level so be mindful of that. The higher up your level is the better you perform and the more rewards you get.

Rewards.

This varies depending on the type of level and achievements you have had. Most rewards are handed over to level 5 and above so the stronger your level the higher your earnings and Bonus rate. You can review the bonus section by googling the Novel Cat Bonus rewards section. They provide a detailed guide that it accurate and straight to the point.

The Bad Side of it all.

Everything has to have a bad side and this site is no exception.

Once you publish a book on the site they require you to have a minimum of 30,000 updated words per month which is a hard to do. Also when it comes to bonuses and rewards if you are still in a lower level you will most definitely have a hard earning until you get to the level 5 threshold.

Frustrating Editors: Here’s the thing not all editors are good and not all are bad. The good thing is that you are able to change your editor whenever you feel he or she is not working for you. Although some traders don’t consider your needs unless you are of value to them.

Motivation Loss: I know for a fact that when you keep updating and see no progress it can be the most frustrating thing and you might lose the will to continue.

So there you have it. There are of Course other sites that I will most definitely be researching and keeping you updated. As of now I am a level three Author and have from what I can see things are going great. I just needed to share this to inform anyone who has a passion for writing but is stranded. This is a good way to build a fan base grow yourself as an author my goal is to shift from web novels one day and be able to go into Traditional Publishing route and have a new York best seller.

Hello,

I really enjoyed your article on web novel publishing.

And you also mentioned some web novel sites.

In fact, I have a post on my website about the best web novel sites. https://baltimes.com/web-novel-sites/

And I also added a nice infographic about web novels at the bottom. The screenshot is as follows: https://www.screencast.com/t/NwY6lX3YW

Full URL download: https://baltimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/sites-to-read-web-novels.png

I think if you put this infographic into your post, it will make the whole post layout look better and thus attract more readers.

You can use this infographic if you need it. (Please add a link to my post when using it, I'd appreciate it!)
