ROLLY: Strongest Super Typhoon so far in 2020

Philippines: Before the Typhoon Rolly made its landfall in Catanduanes, 2am when the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG ASA) announced that Rolly has further intensified and is categorized as SUPER TYPHOON.

What to expect for the Super Typhoon?

Based on PAG ASA (5am)- Within the next twelve (12) hours, catastrophic violent winds and intense to torrential rainfall associated with the region of the eyewall and inner rainbands of the typhoon will be experienced over the provinces in region five such as the Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Norte and Sur, etc. This is also a particularly dangerous situation for these areas. Trophical Cyclone Wind Signals or the TWCS #5 were raised to these areas. Metro Manila is in TWCS#4, and is expected to feel the typhoon later tonight.

PAG-ASA (Philippines)

Rolly is categorized as Super Typhoon with the maximum sustained winds near the center (10-minute average) 225km/h with gustiness of 280 km/h

JMA (Japan)

Rolly is categorized as Violent Typhoon with the maximum sustained winds near the center (10-minute average) 220km/h with gustiness of 315 km/h

JTWC (USA)

Rolly is categorized as (cat. 5) Super Typhoon with the maximum sustained winds near the center (1-minute average) 315km/h with gustiness of 380 km/h

Please be noted that JTWC has higher estimates because they measures an 'average' strength of winds near the center (1-minute average). While PAG-ASA and JMA measures an 'average' strength of winds near the center (10-minute average)

Super typhoon category of PAG ASA is for the typhoon with 10-minute maximum sustained winds near the center with 220km/h or more.

Super Typhoon Rolly vs Super Typhoon Yolanda (strongest typhoon of 2013)

STY Yolanda has a (10-minute) maximum sustained winds of 235 km/h near the center with gustiness of 275 km/h

Super Typhoon Rolly weakens and is categorized as Typhoon!

Based on PAG ASA (11am)- Within the next twelve (12) hours, catastrophic violent winds and intense to torrential rainfall associated with the region of the eyewall and inner rainbands of the typhoon will be experienced over the provinces of Region 5 and CALABARZON region

At eight this morning when the Super Typhoon weakened into a typhoon. But don't enjoy for it is still the powerful typhoon and is destructive. Stay at home, be alert, and pray!

As of 10am today, the center of the eye of the typhoon was located over the coastal waters of Pasacao, Camarines Sur or 30 km West Southwest of Pili, Camarines Sur.

Strength Maximum sustained winds of 215 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 295 km/h. Movement Moving Westward at 25 km/h.
