Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Centauri Mage card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Featured Monster with Retaliate: Centauri Mage

Centauri Mage is a earth splinter card with the return fire skill at level 1. At level 5, it then has the repair ability. It has a large amount of health but it's attack is fairly weak. With the return fire ability and the high health, it is a natural counter for any ranged attack monsters.

I prefer to use stronger attack monsters but this is still a great card to use. Depending on what cards my opponent use, this can be a deadly card. So while I don't use this card much, I can see why it's good strategically for people.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The rule set this time is target practice and close range. Target practice makes any ranged or magic monster will have the snipe ability. Close range allows ranged monsters to attack when it is in the front line. With 30 mana available, we are allowed to use the fire, earth or death splinters.

The summoner of choice for me is Wizard of Eastwood. It has a -2 shield ability and it is the only leveled up earth summoner I have. My plan for this fight is to take advantage of the target practice skill to damage my opponent's ranged monsters. The rest of my cards will probably be cards that increase my damage or speed.

Round 1

Looking at the current line up, I see that my Centauri Mage was a great choice. Along with my Mitica Headhunter, it should make quick work of my opponent's ranged lineup. It looks like my Unicorn Mustang will be taking his time with the opponent's cube though.

Round 2

My Centauri mage is almost dead but I have damaged my opponent's ranged line up quite a bit. I might have to rely on my vulture if my Mitica Headhunter dies but I think I should be fine. Everything is going according to plan.

Round 3

Most of my opponent's damage line up is dead and my Centauri Mage is now dead. It seems like this is pretty much my win but who knows if I will start missing my attacks. If things go well, I should be left with the cube and the ghoul left on my opponent's side.

Round 4

It looks like the match is my win already. All that is left is the cube and ghoul left. With 8 damage per round, I see zero chance for my opponent to win so I will skip the end of the match.

As I expected, I was able to finish off my opponent without any issues. It only took 2 more turns to completely finish off my opponent and I had a lot of room left.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. My Centauri Mage was a perfect counter for my opponent's ranged line up. Along with my Mitica Headhunter, I was able to quickly remove my opponent's damage. So that target practice rule set and return fire combo is really dangerous. It definitely reminds me of why I like using the water summoner Lir.

I can definitely see that my opponent's line up is quite powerful. I would of swapped his ghoul and cube's position for the match. With the snipe ability, it would of definitely taken me quite a while to take out the cube and attack his damage dealers. I still think I would of won if he did do so but I think it was very well possible for me to die.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would of done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
