A lot of stories was being told where does the name of Mandaluyong came from.

Some says it came from the word Daluyong meaning big waves, and others was the legendary story of a Maharlika named Lu ong/Luyong who fell in love with the daughter of the barangay cheif named Manda. It doesn't matter where does the name of it came from, what more important is the history and pride that was being held by the Mandaleños (people of Mandaluyong).

August 29, 1896. Unang Hudyat ng Himagsikan was done at Hagdang Bato. Andres Bonifacio, together with Emilio Jacinto and the member of Katipunan prepared for the upcoming revolution against the Spanish authority at Sitio Balakbak, now is Villa San miguel.

Year 1925, on the leadership of Gregorio Pedro, Insular Psychopathic Hospital was built and became National Mental Hospital by the year 1950, Correctional Institution of Women in 1931

February 9, 1945, Liberation form the Japanese forces was done on 2:30pm to be exact.

Benjamin S. Abalos started his leadership in the year 1988 to 1998 as 1st City Mayor. Followed by his son Bejamin C. Abalos Jr. year 1998 to 2004, which become the start of the Citys economy rise. With his leadership and projects done the City gained a lot of awards and praises from others. The Citys income hit the 1.3billion marks which was 88% increase from the term of his father in the year 1997 and that is where the name "Tiger City" was form.

Neptali A. Gonzalez II, 3rd City Mayor, 2004 to 2007, started his project by improving the Mandaluyong Hospital now known as Mandaluyong City Medical Center, City road network improvement, building parks, Health Centers and others.

2007, Bejamin C. Abalos Jr. made his comeback as City mayor and continued his terms by building courts and improving barangay halls. Mandaluyong was awarded child friendly city (2008), Most business friendly city according to world bank and Rank 1 at quality life according to AIM.

Mandaluyong continue its progress with the leadership of Menchie Abalos (wife of Benjamin C. Abalos Jr.).

There maybe a lot of issues/flaws about the City of Mandaluyong I Am proud to say that I am a Mandaleño. With the help of the previous leaders there is no "Tiger City" now.
