1985 Mexico Quake Turns 35 Years Today! A devastating earthquake with a magnitude 8.1 struck the western part of Mexico last September 19, 1985 at 7:19 in the morning. Epicenter was recorded around 250 miles west of the Mexico City from Pacific Coast of Michoacán with the depth of 20km. Though it was miles away from the origin, Mexico City suffered from severe damage. The reported earthquake fatalities not less than 9,500 and 30,000 injured. It was believed that 40,000 is the total fatalities. Brief check: Mexico City is a plateau region covered by lakes as per history and it is surrounded by volcanoes and mountains.  During the last century, the lake was completely drained, to make room for the housing needs of the growing population of Mexico City. The city is literally sitting on a basin, on a not so stable footing because the ground underneath is combination of dirt and sand which is so vulnerable when an earthquake strike. After the quake, more than 3,500 establishments completely collapsed due to poor enforcement of building codes. Mexico's government lead by late President Miguel de la Madrid (1934-2012) first rejected offer of International or Foreign Aid as they believed they can handle the situation in the country. However,A terrible magnitude 7.5 aftershock in the evening of September 20, 1985, almost as severe as the main earthquake, magnified the damage caused by the first quake.

Let Us Learn Morse Code!! **.... . .-.. .-.. --- . ...- . .-. -.-- --- -. .** Its my first article today (September 18 GMT +8) don't know if anyone of you interested in this sort of communication. Just to be sure, brace yourself due to the complexity that needs a good memory bank to familiarize with it. Who remembers here of Christopher Nolan's epic science fiction movie ***Interstellar (2014)***? For those familiar, skip the next few lines and go to third paragraph. For some who not yet seen the movie, I will state the brief plot (spoilers ahead lol). The movie is all about an exploration of finding and rescuing three (3) out of twelve (12) scientists from the first "Lazarus Mission". Said mission was launched 10 years ago to travel in a wormhole appeared near Saturn in the hope for "possible existence proof of life" outside Earth which is currently dying and in imminent danger as habitat. One particular scene, little Murph (Mackenzie Foy) believed their house is haunted by a "Ghost" wherein in an event some books in her shelf begun to fall. One scene, father-daughter conversation, Murph told Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) she is trying to decode the "message" of the "Ghost" thru Morse Code. See video below for the said clip. https://vimeo.com/459192993 I will keep you hanging for the mean time to give way our main topic "Morse Code". If you want to, I'll make a summary of Interstellar in my next article. Okay, back to the business. As seen above, Cooper said Morse Code is all about " dots and dashes". As per britannica.com, its a system representing letters of alphabet (vowels and consonants), numerals, and punctuation marks thru an arrangement of dots, dashes, and spaces transmitted thru electrical pulses or via mechanical means such as flashes of lights (blinking) signals. Before, Morse code is a means for communication to convey messages. We're lucky nowadays, cellphones are within our pockets! https://www.britannica.com/topic/Morse-Code **Brief fact check**: American inventor Samuel Finley Breese Morse with his assistant and partner Alfred Lewis Vail created the electric telegraph (original Morse system) during 1830s. However, other languages with different styles (diacritic marks) can't translate using the first Morse code (aka American Morse). As a solution, International Morse Code (by Friedrich Clemens Gerke) was born years after in simpler (standard) form compare to the old version and with minor revisions in 1930s which used in past World Wars as type of military communications. Familiarizing Morse code is hard one. On the bright side, it will come handy when time comes. For instance, you were kidnapped and don't have a means of communication outside to call for help. But you have a flashlight hidden. You can reach someone thru blinking lights (assuming the receiver know Morse code too). Another is when you've become a castaway stranded in a lone island. Instead of writing "SOS" in sand, use signals to the ship(s) spotted nearby. *Original clip* *here**.* https://www.tiktok.com/@immy.ali.xoxoo/video/6832304949687258374 In your studies, you can cheat using Morse code during exam or quizzes. Just make sure your teacher does not know how to crack your hidden messages, haha! Its like "Bad Genius" movie movie scene there haha. Use it wisely as the saying, ***"Absolute power corrupts absolutely".*** *Original clip* *here**.* https://www.tiktok.com/@sophieeye/video/6820893273050156294 As shown, the International Morse Code generally comprises the alphabet, numbers, and some punctuation marks. If you want to learn this code, begin now to read! Remember use dot, dash and space! For convenience, use the online Morse code generator to practice. https://morsecode.world/international/translator.html Leave your comments below if you already decode the first quoted phrase above. --. --- --- -.. -.. .- -.-- -jehe

Today in Philippines' History On September 17th day of year 1935, Manuel Luiz Quezón y Molina elected as the First President of the "Commonwealth of the Philippines" (1935-1941). He also reelected to his second term on December 1941 to August 01, 1944). The late Quezón (1878-1944) is "considered" as the second President of the Philippines after late Emilio Aguinaldo (1897-1901 tenure). If you're wondering in his last term (3 years), remember that on 1942 Japanese forces invasion threat at Manila was imminent. Manuel Quezón and his Cabinet fled to Australia then U.S. to set an "exile of Commonwealth of the Phillipines" in Washington (1942). On the first day of August 1944, Quezon died in Saranac Lake, New York due to tuberculosis. The remains were first buried at Arlington National Cemetery during the WWII and then move to Manila where his final resting place is at Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City. Manuel L. Quezón is known as the "Father of the National Language" for supporting Filipino-language amendments to the 1935 Constitution. *For further details of Manuel L. Quezón's career and historical autobiography, read* ***"The Good Fight" (1946)****.* Manuel L. Quezon's legacy still stood today such as the Manuel L. Quezon University, various streets named after him, the Quezon City and Province, etc. As a Filipino by blood, we always have piece of Quezon's memory as his birthdate is celebrated as Special Non Working Public Holiday in the Quezon City and province. Also, he is memorialized as one of the Presidents and national heroes used in Philippine New Generation Currency (NGC) Banknotes and coin today - the 20 pesos. As the ₱20 bill is the lowest denomination among Phillipines banknotes, last December 2019, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) released the new 20-NGC coin. The coin features front face of Manuel L. Quezon, while the reverse side shows the BSP logo, the Malacañan Palace, and Nilad plant. Who's Uncle Sam? I want to raise a question on what comes on your mind when you hear the the words "United States of America" or simply "U.S."? Any connotations will do. Just drop your comments below and let everyone hear it. Probably, I'm guessing you will burst out John Wick, Taylor Swift, Donald Trump, Justin Bieber, Thanos, John Cena, New York, LeBron, Wonderwoman, FBI, 9/11, tissue, Land of the Free, The Walking Dead, Hollywood, NASA, MLK, Supah Hot Fayyah, Michael Jackson, White House, Grizzly, Panda, Ice Bear, Statue of Liberty and whole lot more that we might need tons of sheets of paper just to describe the America! To those brought up the word Uncle Sam as your own connotation, I really mean to congrats and shake hands with you because not all single person knew the word. Well, guess it shows how old you are, just kidding. To those familiar, Uncle Sam has been the other word a.k.a. "nickname" coined solely for United States of America. But how on earth this monicker came to being? Who's behind this figure? Is it a real person? Come on guys, let's check it out and get apiece of information from US History Book! **T'was September 7, 1813 when United States gets of America baptized its nickname, Uncle Sam. Legend it was believe that a meat packer in New York first linked to name Samuel Wilson (1766-1854), who supplied a contractor Elbert Anderson, was the originator and known as the real "Uncle Sam" wherein most barrels of beef he supplied to the army were got stamped "E.A. - US" during 1892 War (between U.S. and Great Britain over violations to latter's Maritime rights).** Its still unclear if a worker or troops jokingly referred "E.A - U.S." as 'Elbert Anderson - Uncle Sam' not as "United States". For civilians during that time, interpreted it as "Uncle Sam was feeding the troops". (Correct these info if you find it wrong.) Widely spread as a seal and mark of identification of U.S. property and on 1961 US Congress acknowledged Wilson as the progenitor of the America's national symbol of "Uncle Sam". In addition, his resident in Troy, New York was declared as " **The Home of Uncle Sam**" while his birthday was officially known as "**Uncle Sam Day**" from September 13, 1989! One of the most used and popular description of Uncle Sam was first illustrated by Thomas Nash (pioneer of Santa Claus image) in early 1870s. While the renowned figure was seen on James Montgomery Flagg's (1877-1970) World War 1 and 2 recruitment poster with caption "**I Want You for the U.S. Army**" (see above). ***For full article on brief history of "I Want You" check*** ***here******.*** https://read.cash/@jehe/today-in-us-history-i-want-you-917b2600 Hope that settles our question(s) on who's the figure behind the iconic Uncle Sam! Today in US History: "I Want You!" Who's on Twitter last first week of January 2020? Its been trending topic on the 3rd day the hashtags **#WorldWar3 and #WWIII** after United States of America killed Iranian Major-General Qasem Soleimani thru drone attack. Well, Iran's replied with a missile attack on US military bases in Iraq. As the internet stays undefeated (as is), memes about possible WWIII Draft memos circulated in all social media platforms! See sample below. A Brief Fact Check: The famous **"I Want You For the US Army"** portrait of Uncle Sam (United States of America's nickname) as recruitment poster was designed by one of America's leading illustrators James Montgomery Flagg  (1877-1960). This poster been widely used and distributed on July 1916 *in Leslie’s Weekly*  with the headline “What Are You Doing for Preparedness?". Today in History Setting jokes aside, let take a look what happened today before. **On Sept. 16, 1940, US 32nd President Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945) made the Selective Training and Service Act (first peacetime draft in US history) as a law which all men between the ages of 21 and 35 were required to register with the local draft boards.** *Will serve for twelve (12) months (1 year) once drafted thru lottery system of government.* The Act was amended after December 1941 stated that men with 18-45 years of age were subject to military service while those age between 18-65 were required to register amidst US entry to World War II. Its been really tough living on World War days. Hope, the Third will not emerged. Share your thoughts on this article and drop some comments below.

Denver Nuggets Killed L.A. Fans Dream Match! Who's with me today?! It been great to be a NBA fan. This very day we witness earlier the Game 1 of Eastern Conference Final (ECF) as Bam Adebayo baptized Jayson Tatum for his tie breaker dunk attempt! The other hand,Western Conferemce Semi Final also held simultaneously for the Game 7: Do or Die bout between the Top 2 LA Clippers and Top 3 seed Denver Nuggets. This game was so memorable and very special to basketball fans worldwide and special mention to avid Nuggets fans out there. Shutout!! After the Game 4 victory of LA Clippers on 96-85 last Wednesday (September 10, 2020) which makes the team a head on 3-1 lead series against Nuggets. It been circulated in the different sports pages and analysts the anticipated battle between two NBA franchise of Los Angeles and LeBron James vs Kahwi Leonard. However, Denver Nuggets steal the show after two games wherein the series tied at 3-3 after Game 5 and 6 victory which gave Clippers the pressure to win the Semis. Nikola "the Joker" Jokic confidently quote before Game 7, ***"We don't have pressure. I think the whole pressure is on them."*** The Joker really mean it! He's not joking around. Denver Nuggets did their very best to beat the favored Los Angeles Clippers and win the series 4-3! Results Just like that, the Denver Nuggets completed the comeback after the 3-1 deficit! I am still having a goosebumps while typing this article! Ow man, that's incredible because Denver did it twice in this conference! First, they buried the Utah Jazz with the beautiful duel between Jamal Murray and Donovan Mitchell. Now, added to NBA and franchise's history book- Denver Nuggets advances to Western Conference Final for the first time since 2009 and will face LeBron James and Los Angeles Lakers squad! Today's results cost LA Clippers to learn their lesson after blowing 2-digits leads during the stretch of game 5-7! With the end score of 104-89, Kahwi Leonard's 14 pts on 6 of 22 shooting and Paul George 10pts on poor shooting percentage of 25% on the floor. That's been summary of LAC today match. To add up, some fans been active on social media after this game. Denver's Dynamic Duo Jamal Murray's 40pts and Jokic triple double of 16pts, 13 assists and 22 rebounds seal the game early which killed most of LAC fans worldwide. **Game 7 stats per quarter: Nuggets v Clippers** Q1: 24-24 Q2: 30-32 Q3: 28-18 Q4: 22-15 With this win, Denver Nuggets become the first team in NBA history to come back from 3-1 deficit TWICE in this postseason! LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers' is the first to comeback in the 2016 NBA Final in the same situation against Stephen Curry and Golden State Warriors team! We witness how the supposed to be tie breaker of Boston Celtics' Jayson Tatum dunk attempt was been literally denied by Heat's Bam Adebayo in overtime! I jumped on my seat upon seeing that! Hope Tatum can sleep well after this thrilling game. https://vimeo.com/458394390 Video courtesy Miami Heat Official FB page. Summary of Game Bam Adebayo bagged 18pts with the exclamation point block! While Jimmy "Buckets" Butler 20pts with his 3-pointer shot late in regulation! Goran Dragic and Joe Crowder have been magnificent in both court who garnered 29pts and 22pts apiece in Game 1. On the other opposing team, Marcus Smart's 26pts and Kemba Walkers' 19pts had been short to help Jayson Tatum who scored 30pts plus the baptism of Adebayo during the "In Your Face" moment in closing seconds! Let's rewind that's moment below! https://vimeo.com/458398790 Video courtesy NBA Official page. Next game will be played on Thurdays, 7PM (Eastern Time).

Today's in History! Its exactly hundred days before Christmas time! To this very date, let's take a look on what happened today in history! On September 15, 1978, "Battle of New Orleans" between Muhammad Ali (former name was Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. before he converted to Islam) and Leon Spinks took place at the Louisiana Superdome, New Orleans. Ali who was an Olympic gold medalist (1960) faced Spinks on the first time who's also a Summer Olympic Gold medalist (1976) on February 15, 1978! Unfortunately, the 25 year old Spinks cost him the title in a 15-Round split decision. Approximately seven (7) months after, Ali took his revenge via Unanimous win with the scorecards of 11-4, 10-4, 10-4 in 15-Round boxing rematch. Ali made history after that win by becoming the first man to win the heavyweight championship three times! That's why they call him the GOAT! Fun fact: Did you know that Ali took a short retirement in his boxing career after this bout? Yes, on June 1979 he announced his short nap rest and came back in the boxing ring on October 02, 1980 to take on Larry Holmes. Unfortunately, his comeback cost him after Holmes domination in ten rounds. Ali's trainer Angelo Dundee stopped the fight. This bout was dub as "The Last Hurrah". For the full bout between Ali and Spinks 2, watch the video below. Note: during those years, camera quality is not been really good. Please bear with it. https://youtu.be/NybyajmD1jw

Ewan bat may time, usually I do it in less. Next, kumuha lang kayang nguyain 😅 para makatulog ka ng mahimbing mamaya. Laging Tandaan: ang sobra ay nakakataba 😌, ang kulang nakakagutom 😎 Kaya, kumain ka nalang dyan.

What Happened Today in History? Its currently September 14, 2020 (12:20 PM, ET) and its only 101 days before Christmas. Guess tomorrow I might start countdown. Anyway, never forgot this day wherein the 25th President of United States William McKinley died after an assassination attempt on September 06, 1901. Two gunshots from a Polish-American anarchist Leon Czolgosz was fired during the late President's "long round of public handshaking" at Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. The assault was carefully planned wherein the assailant hide a .32 Iver Johnson revolver underneath a handkerchief. When Czolgosz turn next, he shot McKinley twice in the stomach. McKinley had undone "operation" wherein bullet was not removed; the wound was just cleaned with stitches and a bandage. Unfortunately, the unnoticed gangrene in the wound killed him and passed away 2:15 AM. During autopsy, wound was not been thoroughly cleaned which a mistake in order to prevent against infections. It was believed that medical team who took late President McKinley wounds was worsen by not using sanitary precautions upon surgery. Immediately, the White House was transferred to his Vice President Theodore Roosevelt who took an oath for vacant position. That's cruel history on US book. Hope, Secret Service manage to be intact at all time to prevent this type of assassination attempt in the future.
