What Happened Today in History?
Its currently September 14, 2020 (12:20 PM, ET) and its only 101 days before Christmas. Guess tomorrow I might start countdown. Anyway, never forgot this day wherein the 25th President of United States William McKinley died after an assassination attempt on September 06, 1901.
Two gunshots from a Polish-American anarchist Leon Czolgosz was fired during the late President's "long round of public handshaking" at Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. The assault was carefully planned wherein the assailant hide a .32 Iver Johnson revolver underneath a handkerchief. When Czolgosz turn next, he shot McKinley twice in the stomach.
McKinley had undone "operation" wherein bullet was not removed; the wound was just cleaned with stitches and a bandage. Unfortunately, the unnoticed gangrene in the wound killed him and passed away 2:15 AM. During autopsy, wound was not been thoroughly cleaned which a mistake in order to prevent against infections. It was believed that medical team who took late President McKinley wounds was worsen by not using sanitary precautions upon surgery.
Immediately, the White House was transferred to his Vice President Theodore Roosevelt who took an oath for vacant position.
That's cruel history on US book. Hope, Secret Service manage to be intact at all time to prevent this type of assassination attempt in the future.
