Today's in History!
Its exactly hundred days before Christmas time! To this very date, let's take a look on what happened today in history!
On September 15, 1978, "Battle of New Orleans" between Muhammad Ali (former name was Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. before he converted to Islam) and Leon Spinks took place at the Louisiana Superdome, New Orleans.
Ali who was an Olympic gold medalist (1960) faced Spinks on the first time who's also a Summer Olympic Gold medalist (1976) on February 15, 1978! Unfortunately, the 25 year old Spinks cost him the title in a 15-Round split decision.
Approximately seven (7) months after, Ali took his revenge via Unanimous win with the scorecards of 11-4, 10-4, 10-4 in 15-Round boxing rematch.
Ali made history after that win by becoming the first man to win the heavyweight championship three times! That's why they call him the GOAT!
Fun fact: Did you know that Ali took a short retirement in his boxing career after this bout? Yes, on June 1979 he announced his short nap rest and came back in the boxing ring on October 02, 1980 to take on Larry Holmes. Unfortunately, his comeback cost him after Holmes domination in ten rounds. Ali's trainer Angelo Dundee stopped the fight. This bout was dub as "The Last Hurrah".
