As you read the headline, it was an assassination attempt but no one lost a life. Anyway, did you know that US' late 38th President Gerald R. Ford (1913-2006) was attempted to assassinate twice in September 1975 by different women? How cruel isn't it?! Despite the presence of Secret Service (SS) surrounded, a bad element still on loose to get a chance to kill a high ranking official of a country. I remember a quote in "Current War" movie. I rephrase it a bit said,

"If you want to be remembered (in history), kill a President".

Its funny 'cause on December 2008 during news conference in Baghdad with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, President George W. Bush was once attempted to but not to kill, instead the frustrated man named Muntadhar al-Zaidi (a journalist) threw his shoes at Bush! See clip below courtesy CBS YouTube channel.

Look Bush's agility to escape those shoes! Haha.

It was after almost a year when Ford took the Office on August 09, 1974 following Richard Nixon's resignation to escape Impeachment Trial on Watergate Scandal.

The first attempt happened on the opening week, Ford has an appointment to some legislators on September 05, 1975 at Sacramento wherein a woman named Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme (26 years old at that time, former follower of Charles Manson) armed with a .45 Colt M1911 semi-automatic pistol approached the President as he walked toward California State Capitol. Thanks to God, the were no bullet(s) shot(s) fired - chamber of the gun was empty! Server Service immediately dragged her to secure away from Ford. See clip courtesy npatou, a YouTube Channel.

*Brief check: Charles Manson who found guilty of a series cult murders with four of his followers in 1971. Famous actress Sharon Tate was one of their victim.

After two weeks, on September 22, 1975 at California again at St. Francis Hotel while waving before the crowds next to his limousine, another attempt led by Sarah Jane Moore (45 years of age at that time, ties to a Bay Area radical group) fired a .38 caliber revolver and luckily had been halted later when former Marine and Vietnam war veteran Oliver Sipple (nearby) grabbed the suspect after her first failed shot on Ford. See short video clip courtesy Vikash, a YouTube channel.

Both sentenced to life prison wherein Moore first released to prison on December 2007 after a parole was awarded while Fromme was released too a year later (August 2009, 3 years after Ford passed away in 2006).
