This may not be applicable to the whole world but it certainly is what happens here in India.
Online classes have been the mode of conduct ever since the Corona virus took a hold. But what the educational institutions here doesn't realize is that the structure of educational system is not (yet) ready for online curriculum. Everything that happens in the name of classes is just for the sake of it. I don't think anyone really understands anything. I didn't. I know the problem is not on my end because it's the same for every student out there. Besides I know I am capable of being attentive if the courses were structured correctly. I know because I was able to complete an entire specialization on Deep Learning in about a week over at Coursera.
The matter of classes is one things. Exams. Quite another. Online exams are becoming increasingly funny than testing the students' knowledge on a subject. I recently found a video on YT showing just that:
I don't know where the world is going with the pandemic. But I do know that educational systems need an overhaul if the next generation of students are to be worth a damn.
