A few days ago I shared the first part of my article titled new technology age. I will now share the second part with you.
Towards Quantum Computing
We are on the verge of a new computing age that will see the rise of strong computing capacity and make it possible to do more operations almost at the source of data. This era includes two types of computing approaches: quantum computing and edge computing.
It may be helpful to give some definitions before going into detail on these emerging issues as part of new and evolving technologies. Quantum computing is the use of quantum phenomena to perform computation. Machines that perform quantum computations are known as quantum computers. Quantum computers are predicted to be able to solve certain computational problems significantly faster than conventional computers.
Edge computing; It is a distributed computing approach that brings computing and data storage closer to the required location to improve response times and save bandwidth. Fog computing is an information architecture that uses edge devices to perform a significant amount of computation, storage and communication locally and through the Internet backbone.
Quantum computers can usually solve problems that are computationally very difficult for a traditional computer in just 1-2 seconds. Traditional computing is built around whether something is a 1 or a 0 at any given moment. In the quantum world, something can be both 0 and 1, which allows calculations to be done in parallel. Quantum computers require special algorithms that can handle very complex and difficult tasks, making them more powerful computing tools than anything known to date.
Cloud computing is often used to describe data centers available to many users over the Internet. Computers in the cloud are the big servers of the Internet environment. Cloud computing technology provides access from anywhere with the Internet, thanks to the storage of software and data in the cloud. But no matter how fast the Internet may be slow for real-time business. Edge computing will free you from the need to send data over long distances over networks to store and compute. Edge computing seems closer to becoming more common than quantum computing thanks to Industry 4.0 technologies.
Most of our computing work today takes place in the cloud, with distributed data centers providing the necessary processing elements. This unlocks the potential for lag. In the near future, more computing work can be done locally, especially for mission-critical applications. For example, the computer vision system of a self-driving (autonomous) vehicle will instantly process and recognize images instead of sending data to the cloud for verification. Edge computing requires special chips and hardware, but will still work with the cloud.
Edge computing approach will be a situation where the advantage of proximity is used first and the results are then sent to the cloud for more complex AI operations, especially when it comes to real-time applications. In the next decade, there could be 50 billion devices (systems, machines, objects) online that generate massive amounts of data. Edge computing is closely related to the Internet of Things, 5G connectivity and satellite communication. As virtual reality and augmented reality become popular, these technologies — smart-connected glasses, headsets, etc. like - will be more intertwined with wearable devices.
Scientific and technological developments continue at an accelerated pace. These; The use of people for the positive future of the living environment and nature is much more up-to-date and urgent than ever before. Technology can never be considered separate from the sustainability of life.
Artificial Intelligence, Robots and Computing
Today, technology is developing and advancing so fast that this causes the pace of change to accelerate. How can we interpret this? It is understood that; At least we need to follow new technology trends. It is inevitable that we will keep an eye on new and evolving technologies in order to learn what skills we need to acquire in order to get a safe job in the future and to make it sustainable ...
Artificial intelligence, with its long history, has made a lot of buzz in the last decade, but remains one of the new technology trends. The personal, social and economic impacts of artificial intelligence are still at the beginning level. We are still living in the early period of artificial intelligence that we call "artificial narrow intelligence". Artificial intelligence; It is currently known for its superiority in image and speech recognition, navigation apps, smartphone personal assistants, ride sharing apps and the like.
The current and future applications of artificial intelligence are not just these. Artificial intelligence; Identifying the underlying links of events and phenomena and gaining insights about them will find application areas. It will be used more to enable authorities to make better decisions about resource usage, to help predict demand for hospital services, and to identify changing patterns of customer behavior by analyzing the data in the compiled data. With the help of accelerating computing hardware and evolving sensors, it will enable us to access, analyze, evaluate and interpret data related to events in almost real time. In this context, while artificial intelligence will become widespread among sectors, it will create new jobs in areas such as development, programming, testing and support. This means a serious economy.
Machine learning, a subset of artificial intelligence, is also applied in all types of industries and therefore creates a huge demand for talented professionals. Global studies conducted; He predicts that artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation will account for close to 10 percent of new jobs in developed economies by 2025. New job positions include robot tracking expertise, data scientist, automation expertise, content creativity, etc. It will take place in the winning rows.
Like artificial intelligence and machine learning, robotic process automation is another technology that automates things. Robotic process automation; It is the use of software to automate business processes such as interpreting applications, controlling and managing activities, processing data, and even replying to emails. As expected of robots, robotic process automation automates the repetitive tasks humans traditionally do. Research suggests that about 5 percent of the professions can be fully automated and 60 percent partially. This situation; While threatening about 10 percent of job positions on a global scale, it is estimated that technologies can open new job positions.
Cloud computing, which is the orientation of the early period of technological development; It has become mainstream with players like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. As more and more businesses move to a cloud solution, the adoption of cloud computing is increasing too. However, cloud computing is no longer a developing technology trend; edge computing takes its place.
As the amount of data that organizations 'had to deal with' continued to increase, some shortcomings of cloud computing were noticed. Edge computing is designed as a way to bypass the latency caused by cloud computing and solve some work 'soon' instead of sending data to a data center for processing. For this reason, edge computing is also referred to as "near computing". Edge computing can be used to process time-sensitive data at remote locations with limited or no access to a central server. In such cases, edge computing can act as a near mini data center. Edge computing will increase as the use of Internet of Things devices increases for the not-too-distant future, where 50 billion smart-connected objects are predicted. Edge computing is an interesting development in that it promises new job positions.
Another notable technology trend is quantum computing, a form of computing that makes use of quantum phenomena. This interesting technology; Regardless of its source, it is also involved in preventing the spread of Covid-19 and developing potential vaccines thanks to its ability to easily query, monitor, analyze and act on data. Banking and finance is another area where quantum computing finds applications.
Quantum computers are now much faster than normal computers. Big brands such as Honeywell, Microsoft, Amazon, Google have been involved in making innovations in the field of quantum computing. The revenues of the global quantum computing market are estimated at $ 3 billion over the next 8-10 years. Quantum computing expertise is quantum mechanics, linear algebra, probability, and knowledge requires experience in theory and machine learning.
Artificial Reality, Blockchain and Internet of Things
Virtual reality is a simulated experience that can be similar or completely different to the real world. Virtual reality applications include entertainment and education. Augmented reality is an interactive experience of the real world environment in which objects in the real world are enriched with computer-generated perceptual information in multiple ways such as visual, auditory, tactile, sensory and olfactory. Augmented reality can be defined as a system that fulfills three basic properties: a combination of real and virtual worlds, real-time interaction, accurate three-dimensional rendering of virtual and real objects. This experience is seamlessly intertwined with the physical world to be perceived as the real environment. On the other hand, augmented reality is a term that refers to all real and virtual combined environments and human-machine interactions produced by computer technology and wearables.
While virtual reality draws people into a virtual environment created from the beginning, augmented reality expands the human perception environment. Although virtual and augmented reality technologies have been mostly used for gaming, ship captain etc. Job positions such as open more and more new utilization areas for education.
In the next few years, we will see other areas where artificial reality technologies are effectively integrated into our economic and social life. Among these areas, we can list examples such as education, entertainment, marketing and medical applications at first hand. On the other hand, artificial reality fields seem to be a candidate for creating many professions and job positions as a serious economy. Naturally, those who want to take part in these business fields as professionals will need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills.
Blockchain is one of the new age technologies on which the most studies and application research are carried out. Block chain; It is an information recording system that makes it difficult or even impossible to change, tamper with or deceive the system. A blockchain is a digital ledger system of transactions that are replicated and distributed across the entire network of computer systems in the blockchain. Blockchain for most people; Although Bitcoin brings to mind cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, the blockchain offers security and convenience that are useful in many other ways.
Various economic sectors are increasingly incorporating blockchain applications into their business processes. This increases the need for professionals with knowledge, skills and experience in this field. The sectoral and institutional demand for experts who develop digital architecture, solutions and applications using blockchain technology is increasing. Developments show that the time is right for people who want to work in this field. Considering the rise of the blockchain in academic circles, undoubtedly; For such job positions (such as object-oriented programming, databases, data structures, Internet application development, networking), it will be necessary to acquire the necessary informatics knowledge and skills.
Billions of such objects will be on networks and on the Internet in the new era where objects become smart and connected thanks to information and communication technologies. These interconnected objects will create a new space that we call the Internet of Things. Devices, systems, tools or any objects will be interconnected with wired and wireless networks to exchange data.
Thanks to the Internet of Things, it will be possible to remotely manage devices in the home with a mobile phone, tablet or portable computer. Examples of this situation are already spreading. We also observe that a similar situation is taking place in business areas. Businesses have a lot to gain now and in the near future with the Internet of Things. Internet of Things, for example, can provide better security, efficiency, and decision making for businesses as data is collected and analyzed. It can enable predictive care, accelerate medical care, improve customer service, and deliver benefits we haven't yet imagined.
For now, we are only in the infancy with these new technologies: Forecasts show that around 50 billion of smart-connected devices will be used around the world in the next 5-10 years, creating a huge network of interconnected devices covering everything from smartphones to kitchen appliances. New technologies such as 5G are expected to increase the growth of this market in the coming years.
If you want to exist in job positions related to such technologies, depending on the technological field you choose, you must have knowledge and skills about information security, artificial intelligence and machine learning, networking, hardware interfaces, data analysis, automation, embedded systems, device and design knowledge. will be required.
5G, Satellite Teams and Cyber Security
5G is the fifth generation technology standard for broadband cellular networks and is the next advanced version of 4G networks that provide connectivity to most existing cell phones. 5G networks are projected to have more than 1.7 billion subscribers worldwide by 2025.
5G is the technology that will enable the development of the Internet of Things, where everything is interconnected in the network and Internet environment. Where 3G and 4G technologies enable us to surf the Internet, utilize data-driven services, increased bandwidth for streaming music and video, and much more, 5G services are expected to revolutionize living spaces.
Imaging hardware, which is getting faster and better quality, will enable services based on advanced technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality as well as cloud-based gaming services. Such equipment is expected to be used in factories. HD cameras; It will help improve security and traffic management, smart grid control and smart retail. 5G services are expected to be launched worldwide in 2021 and beyond, and more than 50 operators are expected to serve around 30 countries by the end of 2021. This makes 5G a new technology trend that you should pay attention to.
A "set of satellites" is a group of artificial satellites working together as a system. A set of satellites is a system of satellites that work together to achieve a goal. Unlike a single satellite; A set of satellites can provide partial or total permanent global coverage such that at least one satellite can be seen anywhere on Earth at any time. Satellites are typically placed in clusters of complementary orbital planes and connected to spherically distributed ground stations. They can also communicate between satellites.
While more than half of the world's population can currently access the Internet, billions of people have intermittent and low-bandwidth connections or are not connected at all. Some companies are working to solve this problem with satellite teams. These organizations have set their goal as enabling high-speed communication all over the planet. Satellites have been used for communication since the 1960s. In the future, more communication satellites will be in orbits than all satellites launched to date.
New entrepreneurs compete to create teams of satellites that coordinate thousands of small satellites arranged in different orbits. These networks; It will be used to connect airplanes, cruise ships, road and rail vehicles to the Internet. More importantly, billions of people who are currently offline will have access to low-cost, broadband Internet. Some other satellite team efforts are planned to provide 10 Gbps connectivity, focusing on the corporate market.
Cybersecurity may not look like a new emerging technology considering it has been around for a while, but it is evolving like any other technology. Malicious hackers trying to access data illegally will not give up anytime soon and will continue to find ways to bypass even the toughest security measures. This is also partly due to the new technology being adapted to increase security. As long as hackers exist, cybersecurity will continue to be a trending technology. Evidence of the strong need for cybersecurity professionals, the number of cybersecurity jobs is growing three times faster than other tech jobs.
While technologies are emerging and developing everywhere, some of them offer promising career potential now and for the foreseeable future. This means that now is the time to get to work in the current early stages of new technologies.
