At first glance, the annual CES (Consumer Electronics Show) may seem somewhat irrelevant to daily business activities. But in reality, most of the technologies on display find their way into business sooner or later.

The reason for this is that technologies for consumers find a place in the changes in business life. If you need proof, you might want to consider smartphones and their inclusion in workplace needs by consumers.

If we consider the technological announcements made at CES this year, we can say that managers should prepare their teams for a year full of change. Artificial intelligence, robots, and the internet of things dominated this year's top shows.

"The main thing is that everything gets connected and everything gets smarter," says Gartner analyst Mark Hung on TechTarget. These issues, combined with still-evolving technologies and workplace changes such as collaboration or the cloud, will change the future of business practices. With this in mind, let's take a look at these 5 technologies that are too big to ignore in the upcoming period;

1) Artificial Intelligence and Voice Assistants

Robots and artificial intelligence were the most talked about products in 2017 promotions. For example, Mayfield Robotics' Kuri pet robot is designed to be a companion and personal assistant. Using its interactive design, machine learning and mobility, it can play games, adjust the temperature at home and chase your dog on the sofa.

One of the key stars of the shows was Amazon's voice assistant Alexa, with dozens of companies launching compatible devices. For example, the voice assistant is located in refrigerators that make it possible for consumers to order food at the same time while examining the contents of the refrigerator using a voice command. How cool is that!

Undoubtedly, as businesses work to facilitate and improve customer experiences, voice-controlled AI technologies such as Alexa will elevate services to new levels.

2) Internet of Things

Progress in sensors, software and technology will enable more objects to connect to the Internet of Things, greatly increasing the potential for new services to emerge.

Broad connectivity will provide businesses with more data on how people live, thus providing valuable information that can be used to design products and customer service tailored to individual needs. Beyond that, smart homes and offices can transfer user data that anticipates customers' needs, even without people's knowledge. This will almost certainly change the way contact centers work, as the data can be used to design new customer experiences and increase the contact center's ability to generate more revenue through cross-selling and after-sales opportunities.

3) Shipping and Delivery

While Amazon facilitates shopping with things like same-day shipping, other companies will look for ways to improve the customer experience. Automation has long been improving the shipping process for e-commerce, as it integrates communication to keep customers informed about the status of the order and minimize package theft. For example, retailers can send customers a message when their order arrives at their door.

4) Integration of Chat Bots

Expect more companies to launch robotic machining in the coming years. Chat bots; Machines can be integrated with products and web services to improve the shopping experience, answer questions and solve problems. This makes customer communication faster, personalized and more effective.

5) Collaboration Tools

The workforce will continue to change after 2021, as the number of freelancers and home workers in companies is increasing and introducing their jobs to new local markets. Collaboration tools such as video conferencing will become the basis for managing a dispersed workforce.

The new technologies we are focusing on have the potential to change the way we communicate and collaborate. But perhaps the most exciting are the opportunities to create new business models and create stronger customer experiences. For this reason, if these technologies are not in the plans for the coming years, I recommend you to add them to your agenda.
