I will share with you my article about an illness that I experienced in my close relative's child and the treatment of this disorder. This discomfort has emerged with the recent studies of many parents. Stuttering is a speech disorder in which the repetition of sounds, syllables and words is prolonged or sometimes pauses in speech. The severity of the disorder varies depending on the amount of stress the child is in. Fear and anxiety-inducing postures, fear of the person being spoken to, test anxiety increase the child's speech impairment.

In severe cases, speech disorders are accompanied by body movements, such as glaring, hitting the floor or table, shaking your head to the right, excessive stretching of the lips.

The illness usually starts between the ages of 2-7 and it is more common in boys than in girls. Stuttering seen at the ages of 2-3-5 is usually temporary. It does not require treatment. In stuttering at this age, working with the family, not with the child, is the most important thing to ensure the appropriate social approach of the family to the child. Generally, stuttering that starts after the age of 6-7 follows a chronic course. It passes from time to time. .

CAUSES OF STEERING

Although it is not known exactly why it is accepted that multiple causes are at work. Familial genetic predisposition is generally accepted in studies conducted on this subject. It is also noted that neurosis is common in the families of these children. Again, in these studies, families who apply strict disciplinary rules that tend to apply strict education and discipline and and there are findings that they are expected above their developmental level.

TREATMENT OF STABER

In treatment, one or more of speech therapy, family therapy, family counseling approaches are used simultaneously according to the specific characteristics of the case.

The basic principle in treatment is to accept the child as he is. The most important principle is that the child should not be forced to speak properly.

The child's parents, siblings, teachers and therapists should be listened patiently, their speech should not be interrupted in any way and the child should be looked at, not his mouth, but his eyes.

In temporary stuttering seen at 2-3-5 years, the child is not aware of the stuttering. The parent of the child, the teacher therapist should definitely not make an attempt to make the child notice this. Otherwise, the temporary stuttering may become permanent. Instead, the child should look into his eyes and rest patiently while talking. It should never be stimulated to speak properly.

One of the precautions to be taken in temporary stuttering between the ages of 2-5 is to ensure that the family and the child focus on the things the child does well. This approach helps the child gain his shaken self-confidence. Children at this age are very concerned with their bodies. They enjoy showing off with boast about the activities they can do using their bodies.

Taking advantage of these developmental characteristics of the child, children with temporary stuttering can walk around a straight line drawn inside the house and / or a circle drawn inside the house on a full line, stand on one leg, play hide-and-seek, hold the child's hand on the ledges in the playground, perform waist gymnastic movements In this way, the child has the opportunity to compensate for his speech inadequacy with another physical ability, and his self-confidence develops. Most importantly, the child's attention is diverted from something he cannot do to something he does well, changing his hearing and self-perception style from negative to positive.

On the other hand, working with the family should prepare the ground for the formation of a healthy parent-child relationship, and the expectations of the family from the child should be drawn in line with the developmental level of the child.

Speech therapy with children, play therapy in young children is carried out by means of mutual dialogue in older children. The main goal in the treatment of stuttering is both to alleviate and gradually eliminate the stuttering of the child and to protect and develop the child's self-confidence.Because stuttering is the main goal of the child's school, peer, and family relationships. it imposes a burden on the horse by affecting the child.

One of the precious rules in the treatment of stuttering is to highlight the positive characteristics of these children and the skills they can do well and use them as a lever in the treatment of the child.

Using a number of special techniques in speech therapy (these techniques are not included in this article), the main emphasis should be on the therapist's efforts to alleviate the child's speech anxiety by establishing a good treatment relationship with the child.
