It's been awhile since my last Words of the Day Challenge. Through Random Word Generator, here are the five words for this day:
Tune
Catherine is a big music fan. She writes song, and submits them to different record labels just in case they will be chosen to be either performed by her or another singer. She has already submitted more than 30 songs but was never contacted. In fact, she has a lot of songs she is yet to submit but decided to keep them when the right time comes for her talent to be noticed.
While listening to the radio, the DJ announced a new song from Beverly, a popular pop star. Being a fan of Beverly, Catherine waited patiently to hear the new song. Finally, the song was played. Listening to the song, it sounds familiar to her. The "tune", as well as the lyrics sounds like she already heard it before.
She opened her drawer where her recordings are stored. Played the songs one by one, and she heard a song similar to Beverly's new one. Some of the lyrics are almost the same as some words has changes. The tempo was slightly changed, but the melody is present on Beverly's version.
Reaction
Catherine searched in the internet which record label Beverly was signed, and she has confirmed that she sent the song to them. She also searched the credits and her name isn't there. In fact, Beverly was the main songwriter with another songwriter.
Catherine didn't wait for the song to become a hit. However, it's unstoppable. The song immediately went to number 1, so she sought legal assistance regarding the possible copyright lawsuit against the record label and the artist. A letter was sent to the recording company to request adding Catherine on the song credits but they declined, and insisted the song is original.
Catherine brought the issue in social media. Instead of being considered on her appeal, the main "reaction" of fans is mostly negative against her. She was accused of looking for attention because the song is a hit. Even Beverly denied Catherine's claims on the song.
Falsify
To "falsify" Catherine's claims, Beverly posted in social media her note pad where she wrote the song. She also made a statement thate her co-songwriter helped her with the arrangement, and change some words to make the song more polished.
To counter the claims of Beverly, Catherine posted the link in social media of her own recording of the song which was uploaded in a streaming platform for independent artists. It has enough proof that the song uploaded was never updated ever since. Beverly decided not to respond, and just issued her statement to counter the lawsuit against her by Catherine.
Specimen
An issue in social media came out that Catherine needs money that's why she filed the lawsuit against Beverly. An unknown social media user posted that Catherine entered a medical facility for "specimen" testing. Catherine was disgruntled because she went to the hospital to assist her mom for check-up.
It seems the social media war is far from over, and Catherine is not giving up. The stocks of the record label has dropped despite the success of Beverly's song. Publicity has affected Beverly positively, while the record label suffered backlash after past claims of other independent artists. The record label was believed to have intimidated those artists in the past.
Beverly's record label decided to make a statement which shocked the music industry observers and fans.
Drama
The record label has decided to reveal that the new song by Beverly was originally written by Catherine, and has undergone modifications with some of the lyrics and melody. They promised to settle the case with Catherine, and add her to songwriting credits.
The "drama" is not over because the decision disgruntled Beverly. She left the record label, but the whole issue has affected her music career. Eventually, it was revealed that Beverly doesn't really sing live, and there are minimal live vocals in her concert.
As for Catherine, she is vindicated. She gained attention not just of her issue with the song she wrote as she became a songwriter eventually.
Thank you for reading, and huge thanks to my sponsors below:
