The banyan tree is the largest evergreen tree of the genus Moraceae, Ficus bengalensis, whose scattered branches descend to the ground and gradually transform into stem-shaped pillars. Older trees form giant coverings. The fruit is small, round, red when ripe which is eaten by birds. Born all over the country. The wood is gray, medium hard. Pillar wood is stronger than log wood and is used for tent poles, palanquin poles and cheap furniture. Bot is a sacred tree to Hindus. It also has medicinal value.

Biswabat tree
The Great Banyan Tree is located about 9 km east of Kaliganj Upazila Sadar in Jhenaidah District. This banyan tree of Bethuli is also known as Mallikpur (Sweetala) banyan tree. Due to its large size, some people have been trying to call it Biswabat lately. The main tree has split into many smaller trees over time. It covers an area of 45 sub-trees and covers an area of 2.33 hectares. Currently the main banyan tree is dead. Some parts in the middle are empty and surrounded by branches. The trees on the south-east side are frozen and the north-west side is surrounded by some empty tents. At present, this huge basement has been preserved with walls all around. There are 345 banyan trees attached to the ground and 36 hanging. It is rumored that the tree was born in the well of a potter's house here. The age of the banyan tree is approximately 200 to 250 years. It may be mentioned that the banyan tree of Calcutta Botanical Garden (Kolkata) covers an area of 2.22 hectares. There too many sub-trees have been created by the death of the main tree. Apparently the Bethuli banyan tree is slightly larger than the perimeter of the Shibpur Botanical Garden banyan tree. The world of Bethuli grew naturally, because it was surrounded by agricultural land. On the other hand, the banyan tree of Shibpur Botanical Garden has grown well.
