What we call "science" is one part technology, one part politics, and one part marketing.
Technology is revealed knowledge which confers power. Suddenly people can grow more crops with less water, make lossless digital copies of music, power a car with water instead of gasoline, etc.
Political concerns arise when these new abilities either support or undermine existing power structures. Does the music industry want people making lossless digital copies of music? Does the oil industry want people to power their cars with water instead of gasoline?
Those seeking to consolidate their power, and those seeking to undermine it, engage in a battle to control the narrative. This is marketing.
"Bitcoin will liberate us from the Fed!"
"Bitcoin enables money laundering and terrorism!"
"Bitcoin is a ponzi scheme!"
Put these things together: technology, politics, and marketing.. Voila! Science!
