Does being different makes us divided? On my point of view, *similarities gives us a sense of belongingness*. Birds with the same feather flocks together. People joined organizations and the people in there share the same goal and interest. People relate to each other for having the same thing in common. In short, ***similarities are the things that binds us.*** But if similarities is the thing that binds us, does that mean differences makes us divided?

As humans, we will always have the *desire to belong*, to be part of something, to fit in. But we cannot deny the fact that we will always have our own differences. And because we badly want to fit it, **we sometimes forget that we are our own we, that we are unique and that it’s okay to be different.** To answer my own question, it’s a no. Being different doesn’t make us divided. Being different or having a different opinion or beliefs doesn’t separate us from each other. It is important that we know that because some people lost themselves just because they want to fit in. People sometimes disregard their own opinions and decide to just left their voices unheard because of the fear to be different, to not belong. Also, there’s this stereotyping wherein society expects us to be the same and act the same like everybody else in our group or in the family. **But I’m telling you again, it’s okay to be different.** I am the youngest in the family and as I grow up, as I see the realities within this country and in this world, I have come to *disagree* with my family’s perspective about most things. Especially on social issues and politics. As the youngest, seeing and hearing that I am the only one having different views is terrifying because I feel like I’m betraying the family. I was young and I was afraid to voice out my own opinion. And most of all, I respect my family so much than to trash talk their candidates for election. Lol I vote for different people during elections, my take about covid19 and its vaccine is different. And it’s okay. At the end of the day, no matter how I disagree to them on some matter, we are still family, we share the same blood and we got each other’s back. Also, I have lots of friends growing up, I belong to many groups, and differences such as having a different religion is always present. But it won’t keep us from being friends with each other. I guess what I’m saying here is that *similarities will always overpower our differences*. We just have to accept that at some point, we are different individuals. We may have the same goals but we can have different thoughts about it. ***Similarities binds us but having differences won’t separate us*****.** Let’s not make differences go in our way of being united. Let’s accept and respect all those, but let us focus on the fact that we have much more than similarities than differences. *We may have different gender, race, tribes, color, country, beliefs, age and so on and so forth, but let us not disregard the fact that we are all humans who need foods, clothes and shelter. We share the same air and the same earth, and that’s enough to make us all united. No superior, no inferior, we are all humans and we share the same rights with everyone.* Always be brave to speak up on what you believe, we may have different views, but that doesn’t make us different form the rest of the people in this world. Focus on similarities but never lose your own voice. ****You are you, and you are YOUNIQUE.**** Hey all. This article is in response with Miss @JonicaBradley****'s**** Prompt #3: Similarities.
