Travel on the way to Nangriat

I set foot on the soil of Meghalaya at a very strange time in my life. Wherever I read, there are some trips in people's lives that change the philosophy of life, the appeal of traveling to Meghalaya is the same to me. I wanted a taste of liberation from the weary urban life, and I got it. A short series can be written about that travelogue of Satek, but today I will only talk about Nangriat.

There is nothing new about Meghalaya. However, the story of 'Nangriat' hidden in the Khasi-hilly region of Northeast India is unknown to many. It has probably been open to tourists since 2010, before only a handful of local hill dwellers built a small neighborhood here. This Nongriat Trail, which has been decorated with extraterrestrial beauty, has been known since 2015.

A group of seven of us visited Shillong the day before. And from the very beginning, Bhiruda was with him, in whose car he spent the whole seven days like a dream. The next morning at about eight o'clock we left Shillong for the village of Tirna, near which the Nongriat Trail begins. Since we wanted to spend the night in Nangriat, Veeruda had already warned us not to carry the bag too heavy. About three thousand stairs will have to be broken, many jungle-rocky paths will have to be crossed.

All the rocky paths that you have to cross some distance in Nangriat

There are a couple of small shops at the mouth of the trail, if anyone wants, they can take help from the local guides. However, as it was a rough road, we left without a guide. We started walking down the steep stairs, taking with us a trekking pole, a bamboo stick straight to Bengal.

Sometimes high, sometimes low, sometimes steep, sometimes sloping, like a rocky, or slippery dirt road. But the key to the unseen fatigue could not touch a single point. And the nature around? It seems to me that such diversity is rarely seen together. It is my wish to spread my arms and legs to the huge untouchable mountains, to awaken the longings of the mind, to revive the cries in the midst of the cloudless infinity.

There is a lot to say near the mountains

Along the way I occasionally saw several primitive unadulterated large-small root-bridges, and suspension or hanging bridges. However, one of the main attractions of Nangriat is the 'Double-Decker Route Bridge', which is said to be the largest route-bridge in the world. The root-bridge is made of twisted roots of hundreds of thousands of years old trees, which can be easily crossed on the dangerous road of Nongriat or the hilly rapids flowing through the bottom. Also, one or two local tea-biscuit tongs can be seen all of a sudden, where you can sip for a while.

After walking for about a quarter of an hour, I came across the double-decker route bridge. Nature understands and makes the path of friendship with man with its own hands. Suddenly looking, it seems that a huge spider understood and weaved this huge wide net little by little. Sometimes it seems as if the trees are trying to embrace the words that have been frozen for many years.

The fountain of water falling in great rhythm between the rocky hills rising on both sides and the warm invitation of the surrounding green is enough to make the mind feel good in an instant. There's a huge pool-like pool at the bottom of the fountain, with a cup of tea to soak your feet or body in, or a bowl of noodles or lunch after a long walk. When that hour and a half or two passed, we did not notice. In the meanwhile, fellow passenger Avi came forward and decided to stay at our 'home-stay' for the night. Tourists stay at the homes of the locals, this is basically 'home-stay'.

Some Moments You Can Spend on Route-Bridge Falls

Then the countdown to 'Rain-Bow Falls' begins, although many tourists return on a double-decker route-bridge. Sometimes we changed wet clothes at home-stay. The road to Rainbow Falls is relatively difficult, although it starts with a vast expanse of plain. However, if you trek for another one and a half to two hours with a little patience, you will see the awesome signs of the strange beauty hidden by the Creator in the depths of nature. On the way, I woke up in a place of quiet peace like a naturally created pool, where it would seem that the nature is being disturbed.

A little break on the way to Rain-Bow Falls

We are very close to 'Rain-Bow Falls', it is not a mistake to understand. Because you can hear it from afar, the rumble of Rainbow Falls. After trekking all day, we were very tired and suddenly stopped at the edge of a huge rock. It was a terrible joy to see the front of the mind was filled with wailing! There is a good distance between where we are standing, but it seems that Rainbow Falls is rushing from the top of a higher mountain in front of us.

A stream of water rushing with the highest force is crashing on the huge rock sitting on the throne just below, it will feel as if someone has put the stone there with his own hands. The height was so high that even after standing far away, the splashing water was soaking us.

There is a steep slope at the bottom of the cliff, from where you can reach a lot of rain-bow falls. But the path is very slippery, danger if you are a little careless. It's as if the roar of the Rain-Bow Falls seems to be relaxing, the manifested joy wants to be expressed in lines, this is a strange lovely moment. It seems as if we are as huge as a mountain; Simple as a fountain, but agile!

I don't remember how much time I spent there. It seemed to break, it was time to return. We returned to the scheduled home-stay before evening. After taking a bath, the chatter froze, as well as light drizzle. The dinner arrangement was awesome. The people at Home-Stay have made us their own, it tastes so great at a local event!

Our 'home-stay' in Nangriat

The call of crickets or any other unnamed insect, the gentle breeze, the rhythmic humming of an unknown fountain in a distant mountain, could not break the stillness of the night. Such a moment rarely comes in one's life.

On the way back the next morning, on the way I met a group of working women from Haryana, with whom I had a chat. I reached Tirna Bazaar before noon and went to see our favorite coward standing with a smile on his face!

Thank you
