Dad used to say, baby when you grow up
I'll take you one day
On top of that hill
The two of them together are the birds of the forest
At night, we are the companions of those stars.
Like this song of Bangladesh's popular band Different Touch, many parents tell their children that when they grow up, they will take them for a walk. But when he grows up, not everyone has that opportunity. There is never time, there is never father. Then what else to do without regret?
Tou Haubei of southern China did not have any chance of such regret. He went out with his 4-year-old daughter Daudau. He cycled to Tibet, far from southern China. The father-daughter pair has traveled 2500 miles in this 71-day adventure!
Tou Haubei's idea is very simple. Only books, the internet and his daughter's world should not be stuck in the four walls of the school-house. This adventure is to show Daudau what the outside world is like. After separating from his wife in 2019, Haubey's family is with Daudau. April was Daudau's 4th birthday. He decided to go on a road trip with his daughter to celebrate his birthday. Hubei put his daughter in a small two-wheeled carrier on the back of the bicycle and got out. With such a long roadtrip, everything was needed.
The journey starts from the southern Chinese province of Guangdong. The destination is Lhasa in Tibet. Going on such a long journey with such a young girl is quite adventurous. But Hubei had the courage in his chest. In 2013, he cycled alone to Tibet. As a result, the road was familiar to him. They will see what they have marked by drawing a map with their own hands. Since Daudau is very young, he has to think a lot. The father had to ensure all kinds of safety for the daughter.
Hubei used to cycle for 8/9 hours every day. Sometimes he would take a bath on an ice-covered hill or on a clear lake. He used to run after his daughter who was overjoyed. The satisfaction of coming so far was to see the girl who was amazed by the beautiful beauty of the river-flowers-leaves.
Of course, it is difficult to cycle day after day. But Haubei did not feel any pain or annoyance in her daughter's happiness. ‘I never thought of going back. It wasn’t too challenging either. My daughter didn’t get a little tired, because she was just sitting in her career. It made him even happier to spend time together. '
Sometimes, Hubei picks up the girl from the back carrier and puts her in the front and rides a bicycle. The joy of leaving his familiar city and going through the forest-mountains is in the eyes of his daughter. In this way, fathers and daughters follow one path after another with laughter and joy.
They crossed the Guangxi region and moved to Yunnan province. Here is the famous Erhai Lake i.e. ear shaped lake. The locals have given this name because it looks like an ear when seen from a distance. Haubei-Daudau will not forget the time spent on this lake. ‘When we were at Lake Erhai, there were countless stars in the sky. Daudau rarely gets a chance to see them. I was cycling and he saw Twinkle Twinkle Little Star - this song was sung over and over again. We were very happy. It's a memorable moment on this trip. "
Hubei has had to ride a very high mountain bike in this area. Sometimes I had to push the bicycle on foot. Daudau also walked beside him with small legs. Haubei loves to ride a bike. So the sun-rain or the snowfall, the long journey could not suppress their adventure. ‘I love cycling. It seems more meaningful to me. It is a reflection of life. You may find something that is hard to conquer. But if you go step by step, keep paddling, and never give up, you will reach your goal. '
They reached Lhasa in Tibet after a long journey. Daudau came here and rode a horse. He ran out in front of the famous Potala Palace and took pictures. Has rediscovered itself under the vast sky. This is what his father wants. The girl should know the real world better than just reading books.
‘Hopefully his childhood won’t be limited to just textbooks or pictures. Nowadays, the children of the city do not see them. If I take him to the village, he will understand that they are not just in books. Snow-capped mountains, blue skies, white clouds can all be seen with your own eyes. '
Daudau, of course, saw it well. Dad will do more such adventures in the future. "I want to take him north to show him the snow," Haubei said.
