How To Believe In Yourself Using Positive Thinking

We all have a sense that believing in ourselves is the key to success. Do you seem to constantly hear stories about how confidence, persistence, and self-esteem lead people to get wonderful jobs and attain meaningful relationships? However, if you're like most people, you probably struggle to believe in yourself as much as you'd like to. Messages from earlier in your life can create self-doubt and negativity. So, if you want to believe in yourself, you have to be proactive about creating the mindset.

In other words, you need to deliberately build self-confidence.

In this article, we'll offer a deeper exploration of why self-belief matters as much as it does. Arguably, absolutely everything you have in your life is as a result of you believing it's possible.

More importantly, we'll provide you with some of the powerful tools you need to cultivate robust, long-lasting belief in yourself, explaining how you can make concrete changes starting today.

Why Believing In Yourself Is Important?

First, let's take a closer look at the importance of believing in yourself.

In particular, it tells us (roughly) that you get back what you send out into the universe.

if you radiate feelings of negativity, self-doubt, and fear, then you stay limited and you never reach your full potential.

  • In contrast, if you are full of feelings of self-confidence, positivity, and self-belief, you receive successes that mirror the way you see yourself.

In addition, isn't it simply much more pleasant and joyful to love yourself, to feel good about who you are?

When you develop compassion and care for yourself, it permeates absolutely every part of your life. Here are three of the most significant examples of how self-belief can reshape your reality.

It Will Change Your Life For The Better

In truth, developing healthy levels of self-belief can change your life completely.

It can turn you from someone who doesn't want to leave their comfort zone and who resents others, into someone who is brave, fulfilled and consistently engages with exciting new things.

Further, note that there's a positive feedback loop here.

Believing in yourself creates more opportunities and more happiness. Meanwhile, experiencing more success and having a richer life makes you more confident in what you can achieve.

You’ll Get Things Done

A person with self-belief is someone who gets things done.

If you cultivate this attitude toward yourself, there's no reason to hesitate, to make excuses or to hold back. Instead, because you're confident in your success, you'll find yourself itching to make the first move in your new plans.

When you truly believe in yourself, your motto becomes “Everything is possible, just do it.”

Doors open for you that you might never even have imagined. You'll find yourself constantly developing – emotionally, spiritually and intellectually.

You’ll See The Good That Surrounds You

In addition, as you believe in yourself more, the more you truly learn how to appreciate the world around us.

Instead of viewing it as a stressful, dangerous place filled with risks, things that can hurt you and people who might hold you back, everything in your world becomes an invitation to personal growth.

You view the world as a place of opportunity and of pleasure, and other people as chances to develop meaningful new connections. You know that your potential is limitless, and you feel grateful to the world for offering you deep levels of fulfillment.

How To Believe In Yourself

Now that you're fully convinced of the many benefits of believing in yourself, let's turn our attention to the practicalities of developing this positive attitude. We'll focus on five central techniques you can employ, and we'll consider how you can make the best use of them in your daily life.

Throughout, we'll also be mindful of potential difficulties you might face, and how you can overcome them.

Practice The Power Of Positive Thinking

Firstly, let's consider the power that positive thoughts have over whether you believe in yourself. The central thought here is simple: the more you practice positive thingking, the more attuned you become to the good things in yourself and the world around you.

You gradually transition away from negative self-talk and start to think of yourself in encouraging, empowering terms.

To learn how to stop negative thoughts and be positive, one of the best things you can do is monitor your inner critic and challenge it when it speaks up.

Try to get into a habit of flipping negative into positive. An example of this is, “I'm scared to give this presentation” becomes “By doing something new, I'm stretching myself and growing in new ways.”

Remember, though, that it's ok not to be ok. Sometimes, you just won't be able to be positive. For self-belief, what matters is merely that you manage to be positive more of the time than not. You don't need to be perfect.

Use Visualization Techniques

There is a range of different visualization techniques falling under the broad heading of creative visualization. We'll explain how you can use two of the most powerful. Firstly, there is the standard meditative exercise of creative visualization.

To do this exercise, you spend a few minutes focusing on deep breathing. Once you've started that you close your eyes and build a  detailed image of what you would like to be. In this case, you visualize yourself as truly believing in yourself.

What do you need in order to make that happen? How would it feel? Who would you be with, what would you all be doing? In addition, what can you smell and hear? The more nuances you add to the image, the more real it becomes.

Not only the Law of Attraction practitioners endorse this technique, either – athletes using visualization to increase their chances of success.

Secondly, you can use a vision board or a dream board. This is a board featuring a mix of words and images that represent your goal. So, when thinking about self-belief, what images come to mind? Are there people you want to emulate?  Have you seen a picture where someone exudes the kind of confidence you want to experience?

These are all ideal things to add to the board. When it comes to words, you'll primarily be looking to stick up motivation and inspirational qoutes that you relate with self-belief (e.g., “success” and “joy”). Inhibition sometimes holds people back when dream boarding, but trust your intuition. There is no right and wrong way to make a vision board.

Use Daily Affirmations Such As “I Believe In Myself”

Daily affirmations are words or phrases that you frequently say to yourself, often into a mirror. The thought behind affirmations is that the repetition helps to gradually reprogram your thinking. Therefore assisting you in developing a different view of yourself.

You can play around with different phrases to see what actually has an impact on your mood.

Examples of affirmations to boost self-belief include “I believe in myself”, “I can do anything”, “I know I will succeed” and “My potential is limitless.” Make sure that you will act and believe in these affirmations, otherwise, they will be empty affirmations.

Some people don't find repeating the words out loud to be that impactful, or they find they need the words at times when they can't say them out loud. Ways to get around this include having the words as a reminder on your phone and putting up a sign that reminds you of the affirmation.

In addition, experiment with different times of day to see which time seems to have the most influence on your mental well-being.

Have Patience

Whenever you're working on changing personality traits or a tendency, it's absolutely vital that you learn how to be patient.

While you can start putting changes into effect today or even this hour, it's not possible to completely transform yourself in just a couple of days.

Try to see the whole process as a gentle upwards slope – every day, you're getting better and cultivating more and more faith in yourself and in who you are.

Often, those who have difficulty being patient have internalized a message that says they have to be the best or be perfect.

Try to cultivate the belief that you are good enough exactly as you are.

You will change when you are ready, and to the extent that best serves you.

Take Action & ‘Act As If’

Finally, even if you want to learn how to change your life completely, it's helpful if you act “as if” you already have everything you want and already possess high levels of self-esteem.

At the same time, see the good in everything you have, and carry this feeling of luckiness wherever you go.

It's important to note that none of this means you should fake happiness, fulfillment or confidence.

Rather, it means truly thinking and acting like you would if you had the best possible life.

In this sense, it's not fake at all – it just means embracing your potential, and thereby speeding up the acquisition of everything you want. In addition, you should always be yourself – don't emulate others when you act “as if”, but instead act as the very best version of yourself.

As well as boosting your confidence, this technique will help you get to know yourself, what you value and what makes you feel good.

Believe In Yourself And Believe It’s Possible

So, now you really understand why believing in yourself is so powerful, and you have a set of five techniques that you can start using as soon as you like.

The more you practice the habits that support high levels of self-belief, the easier it becomes to see yourself in a positive light and believe in yourself. Eventually, it will no longer require effort or conscious and repetitive use of techniques.

You'll simply be a happy, fulfilled and ambitious person who knows they can do anything they set their mind to.

So once you develop real self-belief, you begin to believe that you can achieve whatever you want with your life.

Things seemingly out of reach suddenly seem possible and attainable, and a whole new world can open up before you.
