Ngaliwet is one of the typical habits of the Sundanese people. Almost every Sundanese family gathering holds a Ngaliwet event. Ngaliwet is a group meal activity that is served in a very unique way. The main menu is "Nasi Liwet", which is rice cooked using additional spices such as onions, bay leaves, lemongrass and salt, so that the rice tastes more savory. The side dishes that are usually put in Sundanese liwet rice are also typical, and different from the others. It is said that in the past the people in Tanah Sunda to reach their plantations had to pass quite a distance. Even after arriving in the garden, far from food sources.
For that reason, liwet rice is brought with its cooking pot, kettle or castor which is tightly closed.
