NEAR’s June Town Hall Highlight
The last 6 months was an incredible time for the NEAR community. The ecosystem grew at a phenomenal clip, bringing in new developers, projects and users. Let’s take a look at everything that went down at the NEAR’s June Town Hall.
1.State of NEAR
NEAR Foundation CEO Marieke Flament opened the June Town Hall with a brief introduction about agenda.
Following Flament’s introduction, NEAR Co-founder Illia Polosukhin gave a mid-year overview and update upcoming plans.
Firstly, Illia provided updates on goal of Near Ecosystem in the future: 1 billion users. Polosukhin was excited to announce that developers will then be able to build in JavaScript and ship code directly to NEAR. According the Near Roadmap, Near is going to approach the phase 1: Chunk-only in this September. Starting from 13 July, Near will launch new stakeholders battle test. Recently, Infura and Metamask announced partnership with Near.
Illia also shared some numbers over the past 12 months. Through a year, the NEAR community has onboarded 500,000 qualified members and over 600 qualified projects. The ecosystem TVL also grew over $1 billion TVL.
2. Milestones of the ecosystem
After Illia’s NEAR Protocol update, the Town Hall will pivot into NEAR Foundation milestones. June was a groundbreaking month for Web3 technology on the protocol, with NEAR consensus. Apollo 42-NFT marketplace will launch on Near soon. NEAR successfully launched Balkans Regional Hub. The NEAR Balkans Regional Hub will accelerate onboarding of Web3 talents and blockchain projects in the Balkans. Coinhall announced support for the NEAR ecosystem in Q3 2022.
3. Consensus Spotlight
Jack Collier, NEAR Foundation’s new CMO, shared his vision for the foundation’s marketing efforts and gave Consensus Spotlight. Armored Kingdom is going to launch on NEAR. Multi-chain integration bridges the Ethereum and NEAR communities via Aurora and Brave. Jack noted that since the partnership announcement with move-to-earn project Sweatcoin, over 10 million wallets have been created.
Following Jack’s NEAR Protocol update is the video segment featured by David Morrison - Community Moderator and Chad Lamon-Video Producer. This special segment will feature live video interviews from Consensus.
4. Upcoming Events
Yadira Blocker, the foundation’s Events Lead, updated the community on upcoming events. It included two spots on NEARCON (Sept 12–14, Lisbon) and Ethereum Community Conference (July 19–21, Paris).
5. Town Hall Panel
After the video segment, Marieke Flament introduced the Town Hall panel. Town Hall panel is about Armored Kingdom and moderated by Cathy Hackl, a Tech Columnist and Thought Leader. Armored Kingdom — a new entertainment franchise spanning a Web3 trading card game, digital comics, animation and film, which will be built on the carbon-neutral, community-driven blockchain, NEAR.
This special panel included a team of globally acclaimed and awarded creatives such as Mila Kunis, Sharad Devarajan.
