On the morning of February 22, a user claiming to be "zhoujianfu" posted a message on Reddit.com for help, claiming that he had just lost 1547 bitcoins and less than 60,000 bitcoin cash.

This is not the first time Bitcoin has been stolen.

Mining server Nicehash (December 2017)

In December 2017, the mining server Nicehash was hacked, and more than 4,000 Bitcoins were stolen, which was worth $ 63 million at the time. After the theft, Nicehash handled it very well, refunding all users affected by the theft as soon as possible, and fixing the vulnerabilities in a timely manner. After a few weeks, their servers continued to open.

LocalBitcoins stolen (January 2015)

On January 30, 2015, LocalBitcoins, a peer-to-peer bitcoin market, was hacked, leading to the distribution of malware and loss of customer funds. After taking steps to resolve the security breach, affected users will receive a refund. LocalBitcoins vice president Nicholas Cargas acknowledged that a hacker posted on the forum on January 27, stating how to inquire through his LiveChat account online, and estimated that 17 bitcoins were lost in customer wallets.

Korean digital currency exchange Bithumb (June 2017)

On June 20, 2017, Bithumb, the largest digital currency exchange in South Korea, was hacked. The hacker used the private key of the Bithumb hot wallet address that he had mastered to continuously transfer the bitcoins in the Bithumb hot wallet to his own different wallet address.

In order to speed up the transaction speed and make the transaction confirmed as soon as possible, the hacker set the transaction fee of each transfer transaction to 0.1BTC, which is a hundred times higher than the normal transaction fee. After half an hour, Bithumb noticed the abnormal behavior of its hot wallet. Since then, the digital asset transfer contest between Bithumb and hackers has begun.

But because the hacker does not count the cost, the miner will give priority to confirming the transaction with a high Fee when trading the Bitcoin in the same address. Therefore, the hacker has the absolute advantage. As of 15:45 on the 20th, suspected hackers had transferred 1900 BTC from Bithumb in total, and the loss of funds was about 32 million US dollars.

Japan Exchange Zaif (September 2018)

On May 8, 2019, Binance BTC Hot Wallet was stolen. According to the official announcement of Binance, this is a large-scale systemic attack. Hackers obtained a large number of user API keys, Google verified the 2FA code and other related information. The hacker stole 7,000 Bitcoins from Binance Hot Wallet at block height 575013.

Subsequently, Binance stated in the announcement that it would use the "SAFU Fund" to fully bear all the losses of this attack. Because the theft may be due to long-term APT penetration by hackers on Binance's intranet, Binance promised to spend a week to thoroughly investigate the security of the platform and upgrade its security defense system.

Despite the past few years, the economic losses caused by security incidents in the blockchain industry have become increasingly fierce. However, the security of the blockchain industry is gradually being valued, and batches of security companies are born. The security of the blockchain industry is gradually maturing from the rough period.
