“Hospitality is not to change people, but to offer them space where change can take place.” Growing up in the Philippines, seeing and adapting the culture we have, taught me how to appreciate and value other people’s lives even though we’re not in the same race. Filipinos are known to be the most hospitable, kind, and generous persons in the world. It’s just like it runs in the blood of every Filipino. When foreigners visits Philippines, Filipinos welcome them with a smile and acceptance that they can only experience here in our country. When foreigners set their foot on our country, they don't want to go back again in their own home country. They say that Philippines is like a quicksand, once you're in you can't ever go out again. Some say that Philippines is the most generous country among the rest. That’s why foreigners keeps coming back in the Philippines. But Philippines is not just a place where people chooses to go to be calm and enjoy their lives, some foreigners chooses to go here in the Philippines to escape in their toxic and messy lives back in their country. Many people became refugee because they want to escape the fear they have in their selves and they want to forget the bad things and memories they have back in their country. Another factor why refugees leave is because of the fact that they are not enjoying the lives they have in their own country. One time, I saw a video about refugees on how they manage to leave their country. Seeing the video it makes me feel sad because they have no other choice but to leave in order for them to be safe and to fulfill their needs as a person. I can feel the sadness in them leaving their loved ones back at their country. If I was able to meet some refugees, I will not hesitate to help them and give them shelter because this is what my parents taught me, that if others needs help, don’t ever hesitate to give them and offer them what you have and what you can give. Shelter, food, money and respect let’s not refuse to give that things to those individual who needs it. If ever I will become a refugee, I will follow the steps of Sayed (Sayed is a refugee that helps his other refugee to start their own lives), that no matter what happens even though I’m just a refugee I will continue to help people who are in need because we are all humans and we deserve to be loved. Just help as much as you can because this is what humanity means. Humanity is the most powerful thing we can have even though there’s nothing else left to us.

The Philippines for me is the boiling pot of cultures. On how the country was influenced by the colonizers that made the people how it is now. And being welcoming is innate in every Filipino that we all should be proud of.
