Mary was a very nice girl, always had a smile and it seemed like she always knew what to say. She had personality, charisma. She had graduated with honors and ran her own real estate company. She worked her laptop all day and didn’t go out without her smartphone, which worked as an assistant.
That day she had been invited to a party, her best friend Susan invites her to go to a party in the area of the most sought after artists. She assured her that she would be lucky there and get clients. She couldn’t resist.
At night she took her car and drove to the party. Susan was waiting for her at the front; she cannot enter without an invitation. The girls, as always, talked to each other about their things and laughed at everything that happened to them.
Mary entered an area where pictures where being exhibited, once finished, they would have the party. So beautiful! There were many imitations of famous painters, to the point that those paintings could pass as authentic. But no, they knew who painted those imitations; the painters of those works were present that day at the party.
Mary’s impressed, she is not a connoisseur of works but she likes what she sees and she tells Susan that this work particularly catches her eye. She likes nature and sunsets are some of the images she likes to see the most, she leans over to read the author's name and immediately someone says: It's from Philbrick. She turns around and with a smile thanks the man who intercepts her. She looks at him and is impressed with the young man's eyes, blue like the sky on its cloudless days and as clear as the image of the sun.
He greets her and she answers him without breaking her surprise. Then she tells him, to regain her senses, that she likes sunsets and that one in particular has the truest colors she has ever seen. This is how they all introduce themselves, Mary, Susan and Richard. They eventually separate to continue looking at the rest of the exhibition.
Mary is very excited and tells Susan, "I won’t go anywhere without hearing from this gentleman that I just met” to which Susan replies "take care, I’ll accompany you until you can see him again and then we will see what happens…"
The exhibition ends and then they retire to another larger, open, room with many lights and large tables very richly decorated with all kinds of delicacies.
Further on a track where they play live jazz music with a trumpet, accompanied by a finely executed piano. It was a pleasure for her ears and eyes to see such a riot of glamor.
She was walking with Mary and chatting trivia near a brightly lit and richly decorated pool. While Susan and Mary give opinions about everything they have seen during the night. They don’t stop offering their smiles to feel the fascination of the moment when they hear again the voice of Richard.
Then Susan apologizes and says that she will go get something to eat and then come back. But it’s not like that, she walks away to leave them alone, just like Mary wanted. She had a wonderful evening with Richard, giving him her views and sharing laughs.
Three months have passed and Richard and Mary are in a relationship. They are young, they enjoy their lives, but they are always each busy with their different activities.
But there is something that bothers Richard, he still can't understand why Mary always keeps her phone with her, she never stops taking calls. Wherever they are, when the phone rings she apologizes and leaves to talk. She has some real estate offer but Richard thinks she could take a break from the phone even for a few hours of the day.
Richard loves Mary, and after about a year dating they want to get married… But first he wants to get rid of this uncertainty about Mary and her calls. Richard is somehow up to something, he wants to find out what affects him so much and decides to find out what makes him doubt Mary.
Being together for a few days in Mary's apartment. He keeps worrying and asking Mary why she spends so much time on the computer, why she does her home visits at any time of the day or night. "Why don't you tell people that you can't go out at night and only show the houses in the daytime?" To which she replies: “Don’t be jealous, I have had this job for many years and there are many clients who recommend me, I don't want to disappoint them. They know that I go out whenever they need to see a house"
Time passes, they plan their wedding, but Richard is also planning something different. He's about to find out what's wrong with Mary’s job. If he can find the right answers, they will have a long and happy married life ahead of them, because he loves her too much.
They are together, it’s a beautiful morning. They have breakfast next to a beautiful pool with waterfalls, the sound is very relaxing, but Mary's phone rings and she breaks the spell. She says ... "Excuse me, he’s a client, I'll be right back" and after about 15 minutes of absence she comes back with that smile that has Richard captivated and she tells him… "I have a client to show her a house in the hills, so while you work I will go at 5 with this client. See you at night".
She came to her appointment with her client… but instead of being at the house on the hill it was a date at the hotel on the hill, and the supposed female client was none other than a male client. She was recommended by many for her services to gentlemen, she worked very well and that is why her clients accepted the large rates that she asked of them in advance. Her job as a real estate agent was only a skirmish to protect her reputation.
She arrived at the time of the appointment and entered the hotel room. Lights out, scented candles and rose petals scattered on the floor… Just the way she liked it. She begins her seduction ritual as she prepares to slip off her sensual outfit and goes to bed, where she can see the figure of the man waiting for her.
She greets him sensually and says hello again to Johnny... “As always, I have this dress on just for you…” It’s then that Johnny turns on the light, she jumps while backing away with a cry of surprise. It wasn't Johnny, it's Richard…
He tells her… ”Don't be scared. Keep up with what you do, today I am one of your clients so treat me the same as you do others. I just want to tell you that this is the last time you look at me. You will never see me again. I just wanted to find out why you had so many calls…”
He had asked his friend to call her, to confirm his doubts. But the worst had happened… Even though he loved her, she will never see him again, she would never make fun of him again. He left…
That's sad. He broke the trust of a person that would give her the love she could have dreamed in her lifetime.
