The finger cut by justice does not hurt - Runaway Jury

How interesting can a job for $16 a day + lunch be?

Participating in or watching a case with a predetermined outcome bothers the honest and those who trust justice the most. Do we sometimes have to go outside of justice in order for justice to be done?

Competition only makes sense when provided on equal terms. The foundation of a lawsuit being heard today was actually laid 10 years ago.

A jury consultant who does not know the rules and laws, a jury member who keeps messing around and an honest lawyer are the main characters of the movie I will talk about.

Millions of dollars, human lives, and a fraudulent case make up the thriller in which the characters are the main subject.

Bringing together master names Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman, the 2003 movie Runaway Jury takes us on a journey to the back alley of the institutions we expect.

One Monday, his investment firm is gunned down by one of his former employees. In this raid, 11 people lost their lives and 5 people were seriously injured.

The court process, which is the subject of the movie, is not the punishment process of the attacker because the attacker has already ended his life by targeting himself with the last bullet.

The main subject of the film is the arms company that produces the semi-automatic weapon used by the attacker and sells it in an uncontrolled way.

The woman, whose husband died in the attack and became a widow, sues the arms company for million dollars. Until that day, companies have won all lawsuits filed against weapons companies.

I consider the court process as 3 stages.

1- The massacre scene that led to the start of the trial, which was the subject of the court

2- Jury selection

3- Plaintiff, defendant and third parties that arise spontaneously illegally and are involved in a way that directly affects the case.

As soon as you press the play button of the movie, the massacre scene greets you. Those who follow the agenda remember such armed raids. Unfortunately, thanks to the effects of being able to buy guns the easy way, we face reality like this several times a year.

Scenes during the jury selection may undermine trust in justice. Because in order to determine which jury has the potential to decide in whose favor, they examine the lives of the jurors closely and look for their vulnerabilities.

Everyone has a secret, let's see what's his?

The final stage keeps the curtain on the mysterious plot of the film closed until the last minute. A juror whose purpose until the last moment has been to influence the jury's decision is marketing the decision to both the defendant and the plaintiff.

The entire movie progresses like a game of chess, with each move affecting the next move and having serious consequences. A witness can disappear, and one juror can lead to the elimination of another juror.

While watching all these scenes, you can perceive the tension surrounding you and the feeling of curiosity, and you can find yourself in the movie.

One of the dialogues that impressed me the most from the movie, which featured interesting dialogues inside and outside the court;

+I know you're playing doubles.
-Yes it is! Can I sit?
+Can you tell me? Why don't I go to the judge now, drop the case and have that provocative little butt thrown in jail?

There are scenes that remind you of the promise to believe everything you see. Even though I thought of adapting this phrase to my real life while watching, how many real-life intrigues, lies, and pre-planned events happen? I do not know!

  • $1 million for special damages,

  • $110 million for general damages,

  • $15 million to the jury member,

  • $30 million for all litigation costs,

Considering that the year is 2003 and we are living in 2022, the 19 years that have passed will increase these figures even more.

Sometimes trusting justice and following the decision may be the best choice! Justice can sometimes be wrong and late, but in the face of justice, our necks are thinner than a hair!

The justice system of the Philippines is congested because we do not have enough lawyers in the government. It's going to take time and I hope that we will be able to address that issue so we can move forward.

It is important that independent courts provide justice, otherwise chaos ensues when everyone starts to create their own justice.

Well here in Philippines, the justice system really sucks and you would wish to bury yourself rather than wait for the justice.

Justice causes great difficulties in many places because of its corruption.
