Breaking the Girls
Breaking the Girls, a 2012 film with a dark story that deals with complex relationships, revenge and betrayal, successfully reflects the psychological thriller genre.
Sara and Alex, the two young women through whom the story of the movie unfolds, meet by chance after being bullied at school and become close. Sara, a law student, is introverted and unable to express herself. After Alex's closeness, they form a close friendship and embark on a dangerous game.
Sara and Alex's dangerous game is the main story of the movie. Tension is successfully added to the story, but I must say that I liked the reflection of character-based psychological tension the most. While Sara's naivety and introverted attitude is openly displayed, the other female character Alex's real face is kept a mystery, which makes the story special.
As soon as Alex dominates the story, the psychological tension starts and you don't want to miss a moment of the story. The fact that the mystery hides the main story for a while makes the moments I mentioned more enjoyable. I can say that the fluency of the movie and the way the story was handled was quite good.
At the beginning of the story, you don't realize the complex relationships of the characters and the dark webs in their relationships. In that sense, the way the mystery was used was good and it felt like the movie was going to be in the crime genre. I liked the script of the movie, and the way the director takes the genres that I think drive the story in the order in which it unfolds keeps the movie out of the ordinary.
Agnes Bruckner as Sara is my favorite of the actresses' performances. She successfully combines Sara's naive and fragile nature with her gradually emerging dark side. She successfully portrays Sara's initially elegant nature towards the other characters as she gradually becomes mysterious and manipulative.
The locations used in the movie were quite numerous and very successful in reflecting the stance of the characters. Unlike movies that are stuck in a single space, the use of the right and quite large spaces to reflect the relationships and tensions of the characters reflects the atmosphere more successfully.
I recommend watching Breaking the Girls. The movie is one of the productions that I think fans of the psychological thriller genre should watch more carefully. The harmony between the performances of the actors and the characters was remarkable. Personally, I enjoyed watching the movie and I must admit that I had no trouble getting into the story.
Thank you for being here and reading. I hope I was able to give you a preliminary idea about the movie. I wish everyone who will watch it a good time. Take care and goodbye!
Thanks!
