I study computer and network administration. It is not a topic very selected by women, and that is okay. We can not hide the fact that we are different physically and mentally.
But it is not that difference I want to talk about, is the fact that men tend to objetize women a lot, and comments about looks and other stuff I do not like to talk about are very common.
What made me come here to talk about this topic is the situation I saw today.
I play padel once in awhile with a friend. We have some people we play with, all men. When we finished we drank so coffee in the same pavilion where we played. There was a gril playing while we were having coffee, I have to add that I was the only one drinking coffee, the rest had beers, 3 or 4 each.
The comments about the girl were horrible, sexist and uglily sexual, comments that made me consider leaving, I was very uncomfortable. There was a waitress there and I am sure she could hear them, I felt so ashamed.
The worst part is that some of these men had daughters and wifes. Is this really the world you want your childs and wifes to live in? I do not think so. But this attitude just makes commenting this type of stuff normalized, and this is not the way to eradicate violence and sexism against women.
But this is not the only place I hear these comments. Everywhere I go. This week for example. In my computer class, classmates were talking horrible things about girls they know or even extrangers.
This is completely not the way to go somewhere good in the future. I have a sister, and just imagining these kind of creatures revolving around her makes me sick.
Also this attitude grows like a snowball. The first comment gets things started and there is no way to stop it. But it is not the talking. It is very common in the tv hearing about groups of men attacking a woman in the street. And they are not making things easier for them.
And when you hear women trying to make laws against this stronger you always hear people saying that there are going to be cases of false accusations.
In my opinion the way to go is to do both punishments harder. But they do not do that.
I hate talking about this topic. It seems so useless, in the year 2021 there should not be this kind of problems, but sadly there we have them.
So I am sorry if you ever experienced this and if you are a guy, try to stop this, we have to condemn this attitude. next time this happens I will say something and stand to stop this.
We are all in this together and we must stop this together.
