Not Rich? Blame the Stars.

My star sign is Pisces.

When it comes to side hustles, Pisces are the least likely to have one but are frugal when it comes to online shopping, only blowing $159 a month.

Aquarius are the wealthiest, Cancers the poorest, Tauruses save the most, Leos invest the most and are most likely to hold crypto, Aries the most stressed about their financial situation, sagittarius pay their debts the fastest and don't care for crypto and Libras are terrible people, a rung below redheads.

Obviously, this is a load of crap.

Though, there is some truth to the placement of redheads in society.

Well, maybe it is crap - apparently a Finder survey of a (small) sample of 2000 people discovered those facts and while I think that for the most part it is crap, when we are born likely does have an effect on our outcomes in life.

For example, a study of NHL drafts found,

The report found that 36 per cent of players drafted by NHL teams between 1980 and 2007 were born in the first quarter of those years, or from January to March, compared to 14.5 per cent of draftees who were born in the fourth quarter.

There are reasons for this, where players are put into age groups by year, meaning that those born earlier have an advantage all the way through their formative years, as they are likely stronger and faster than those who are a fair percentage (in those age groups) younger. Interestingly, the same study found a correlation that the players who were drafted from later in the year, were more likely to have longer and more productive careers in the NHL.

But, star signs and birth timing aside, it is pretty obvious that we have a range of different personalities that are going to be better suited to various activities, or not suited at all. Just like a physical advantage (like height in basketball), our mental and emotional attributes are going to be more or less likely supportive of successful outcomes.

Speaking of height, one study looked at earning based on height and found that taller people earned more than shorter on average.

To be exact, the researchers estimate that each additional centimeter of height is associated with a 1.30% increase in annual income. In other words, a person who is 5 feet 6 inches making $50,000 per year would expect to make about $2,000 more if they were 5 feet 7 inches, and $4,000 more if they were 5 feet 8 inches.

It seems employers are like most women - heightists.

This is why I don't earn more! It isn't my lack of skill or low work ethic at all!

As we know, attitude matters and if our frame of mind isn't conducive to behaving in ways that support successful outcomes, we aren't very likely to be successful. It is pretty obvious. Yet, while we know that we have different personalities, we tend to limit what that means for our lives in general. For instance, I think we all know people with likeable and unlikeable characteristics and we do think that this is going to have an income on the relationships in their lives, but how does it affect their investment strategies?

It is an interesting thing to consider, as investing is often a loners game, where there is no need to know who is on the other side of the trade, nor care why they are trading at all, so perhaps it is suited to an asshole. A lot of people seem to believe that those who are financially successful, tend to not be very likeable - but is that just society's bitterness or, does it have some merit?

Hard to say -
but if I have to double-down on being an asshole in order to get rich, so be it!

While most of this post is bitterness thinly veiled as humor, I do think that my own mindset hasn't been supportive of financial success, just like my sweet tooth isn't supportive of having six-pack abs. I can blame my genetics for all of my outcomes it seems! But in reality, I know that in the past, my behavior wasn't suited to successful financial outcomes, but it was tailored for wasting copious amounts of monetary potential on depreciating or already valueless purchases.

Now hopefully, I have learned enough that all of those small amounts I earned (I am short, so didn't earn much remember), could have been used to make me incredibly wealthy, if used well. But, I sill have issues in many ways, as I still carry a scarcity mindset for the most part and, I am often fearful of making moves, so tend to play it safe when I should risk a little more and be bold.

Though, bold is relative.

Ask most of my investor friends about my "strategy" of going all in on crypto and they would likely say that what I miss in height, I make up with the size of my balls. Crypto at this level isn't suitable for everyone, at least if considering their mindset and attitude. Most people play it safe in this world, regardless of their star sign or the time of year they were born, because we are human and, we are built to evaluate risk and act on fear, even if we evaluate poorly and are scared for no reason.

Personality matters.

Pisces personalities are known for being one of the most empathetic of the zodiac signs, and they'll do whatever they can to make sure the people around them are happy. They're also artistic and use their vivid imaginations to think up ideas many others wouldn't.

Fuck off.
