Splinterlands launches governance token soon
The future of Splinterlands will be in good hands
I've put a lot more thought to it. When I made a post about it in portuguese, it might have been obvious I was frustrated at yet another "the higher ups get even higher" move when it comes to the governance token, but there is actually a lot of good stuff about how this is being done. Because it is not simply rewarding activity or ownership. Only people who are truly engaged within the game will actually hold these tokens.
Let's say you're a top-tier gold rank player who cares little about governance using these tokens. They can still earn more by staking some tokens on themselves if no one else does. After all, low amounts of stake generate a higher % yield. He is proportionally getting the high end of the stick. Specially because he is a top player in his league, since it was announced we will earn Splintershares tokens using the same equation as DEC distribution. It also works on win streaks!
Gold foils will find increased value during the distribution period too, so everyone will finally have a reason to put those bulk 1 BCX to good use. Of course, there will be an optimal rank to use them, but they will now have the best use case so far, and that's great. Small collection players might be negatively affected if their rental prices skyrocket. As rental becomes more popular, that would be very bad for the community as a whole.
Finally players will have a reason to get out there and expose themselves. They do not suffer from diminished staking rewards like stakers do, so marketing will become a priority. Likewise, large stakeholders may offer contracts to them, requesting contracted players get staked on in exchange for livestreaming themselves playing, being in their guild and whatever else floats their boat.
Last but not least, governance tokens will only be held by those who want to continuously focus on Splinterlands. At least some non-players who own a large collection might not want to participate in governance, so selling every token they get will be the most attractive option. By the time the airdrop ends, only players in the Splinterlands will still own governance tokens, and that's the best pro of all.
All in all, I've become very excited about the future of Splinterlands crypto game thanks to the developer team's distribution plan. A mighty fine job, as usual.
