These are caused by infection with salmonella typhi and salmonella paratyphi.The organisms gain access to the body through ingestion of contaminated food,water and milk.Infected shellfishes are occasionally responsible for an outbreak.
Clinical Features of -
Typhoid fever
Onset may be insidious
Fever as high as 104 degree F temperature
Malaise with increasing headache, drowsiness and aches
Cough and epistaxis(nosebleed)
Constipation may be present
Constipation succeeded by diarrhea and abdominal pain
Rose-red spot
Lathergy
Paratyphoid fever
The course tends to be shorter and milder than that of typhoid fever
The rash may be more abundant and
The intestinal complications less frequent
Sources or Spreading of Enteric Fever:
Enteric fever are spread by consumption of contaminated food or water
Direct faecal oral spreading /Transmission
Spreading also occurs through eating raw fruits, vegetables, fertilized by human excreta
Ingestion of contaminated milk and milk products
Spread by infected person which contain bacteria
Spread through poor hygiene
