Stroke

A stroke is the sudden death of brain cells in a localized area due to inadequate blood flow.

Classification of stroke :

• Complete stroke

This is an episode of focal cerebral dysfunction due to either cerebral infarction with symptoms lasting longer than 24 hours.

Major

Minor

• Envolving stroke

Envolving stroke is when symptoms worsen gradually over a matter of hours or days

• Transient ischemic attack

  This is an episode of focal neurological dysfunction due to cerebral ischemia in which symptoms last less than 24 hours.

Cause/Aetiology /Risk factor:

1.Modifiable risk factors can be controlled by life style changes medical treatment and medication ;

• Hypertension

• Hypercholesterolemia

• Atrial fibrillation

• Diabetes

• Smoking

• Obese

• Physical inactivity

• Excessive alcohol consumption

• Stress

• Heart failure

• Polycythemia

• oral contraceptives

2.Non modifiable risk factors such as age and it cannot be changed

• Age(It may be occur at any age but must common occur over age of 55)

• Gender (mainly male are more sufferer than female)

• Family history
