Into the Great Unknown

It's a thing to say that the year has been one of the worst years humanity has ever faced, but one thing I will have to say is that this is a unique experience for all of us. We can connect because of the Internet, and the 20th Century view of the future pushed us enough to allow us to still function as a society. The difference right now is that those of the 1970s and the 2000s have claimed to have radically different views of the future, and I would be inclined to agree, but we're not.

There was a time in the 20th Century where all things were said to be rounded and flying in the future, wishful thinking of what computers might've brought and what nuclear fusion will bring for humanity, but as time passed and the Cold War passed, times had changed. Some of the old thoughts of the future has passed and became true, but most became what was now known as historical fiction, or science fiction.

The thing right now, however, is that we are still heading that way. With the introduction of smartphones, our growth towards the 1970's Future started to accelerate as we simply didn't need a PC on a table to connect with others through other means such as a text or a call. With the advent of the sleek white designs Apple had brought, we unknowingly created a goal where everything was clean, beautiful, and pleasing to the eye.

But all of these were still covered by the truth of factories and pollution, which ruined our little 1970's Future views. Our future became grim. The world of dystopia arrived because of people wanting to warn us of our mistakes.

We still don't learn from them fully, but I've seen a movement to correct mistakes long ago.

Today, society has slowed down to a crawl. I'm here, stuck listening to online classes, and I was a victim of being addicted to gambling for a short while. But I learned to be better. I've stopped gambling away my cryptocurrency. I've started to find other ways to earn while learning and as things will change, I will soon be able to have experiences to be able to fully understand and create my own programs, and my true dream of sharing my stories through interactive media will come true.

The future is the Great Unknown. We're heading towards it. We don't know if we might survive the pandemic. We don't even know if we can fully recover, or we will enter a state of disaster one after another, but one thing for sure is that I will be here, staring to the future, enjoying our present, and learning from the past.

I've always been fascinated by stories, and when the time comes, our story as we survived this pandemic will be told through the Internet. Through this, we will be able to see how we are still strong despite the differences in life, culture, and borders.

We're going to still see each other. We'll survive this pandemic and when it disappears, everything will be new again.

This is Rowan, signing off with Ad Astra.
